What high-end cdp for low-end quality CD's ?
Absolutely, Jeff. I haven't given up on CD and I agree that the Cap is an amazing player -- one of the very best available. Nonetheless, I can tell you that my $2000 VPI Scout/Dynavector vinly rig absolutely blows it away, especially with older re...
What high-end cdp for low-end quality CD's ?
The only answer to this question is vinyl. Bad redbook sounds bad no matter what. I have an Audio Aero Cap, and although it makes these recordings sound "better" than many other players, they still sound congested, compressed, and veiled.
Which 3K CDP: Simaudio Nova, Ayre CX-7 Wadia 302
What's your aversion to going used? You'll get much more for your money and you'll lose less when you decide to upgrade (which will probably be sooner than you think!).
Best Redbood CD Player Used/New under $7K
Consider the Audio Aero Cap in that range, as well.
Quicksilver V4 or Sonic Frontier Power 2
I use the V4s to run my Vandersteen 3A signatures (also 87db, I believe). They are fantastic amps -- warm, rich, never fatiguing, built like tanks, and they barely need biasing. Mike Sanders is also a pleasure to deal with. They are not the most p...
Wadia 861
I had a Wadia 301 and sold it partly because of high frequency glare and smearing. (Rather serious listening fatigue on less than pristine recordings). I almost bought the 861 but was advised that it exhibits many of the same characteristics -- un...
Vandersteen Quatro speaker - link to info
I have spoken to Vandersteen on this as well. I asked for his advice about adding a pair of 2Wqs to my 3A sigs or just upgrading to the Quattro. He recommended sigs and the separte subs because you get the same mid and tweeter drivers plus the adv...
First Sound Presence Deluxe - Mk. 2 Owners
I'm using a Virtual Dynamics Nite II cord. Pitch black background and great imaging.
1st sound vs. placette?
I owe the First Sound and it's astonishingly good. No remote is not as bad as it sounds. I haven't heard Placette gear, but I understand it's fantastic as well. As for other preamps, people speak very highly of VTL, Aesthetix, Wytech, and Joule-El...
Vandersteen question
I run my Vandy 3A sigs with Quicksilver V4 monos at 120W into 8 or 4 ohms. Richard Vandersteen recommended the amps. I can't give you a definitive answer on the minis, but I'd be concerned trying to run 25 watts into a speaker that dips to 4 ohms....
wadia 301 owners?
I just "upgraded" from a Wadia 301 to an Audio Aero Cap Mk II. The Cap suits me and my tube system better, but lacks the Wadia's incredibly fast, taut bass and sparkling resolution. That said, for my tastes on my system I prefer the Cap. It comes ...
