AC Outlets Elizabeth is right on the Levitrons. Their heavy duty outlets may be well made for running a vacuum cleaner but they stink for audio. I was shocked (not literaly) by the Audio Magic outlets, which appear to be based on these same Levitrons. I was ...
Sub's for Magenpan 3,7 The DWM is a small section of the bass panel from the 20.1's. It only goes down to 40 Hz. I'm not sure its going to add that much to the 3.7's.
I advise you all stick with smaller dogs I have a Sheltie named Wolfie, after Mozart. He is an extremely well behaved dog, and loves music. It seems that he is quite partial to Schubert. In fact, he has a habit of "singing along" Schuberts's string quartets. He also seems to like Shostak...
Sealed vs. Ported Speakers For what its worth, here is the perspective of a die hard planar guy. Back in the 70's and 80's, I would have answered this with an emphatic yes. Based on some fairly extensive listening of current designs, it appears to me that the question shoul...
Passive Pre-amp: Improves overall sound quality?? Atmasphere, Anyone who spends $10,000 on an IC has a problem no pre-amp can cure. :)
Sub's for Magenpan 3,7 I added a REL R-218 to my 3.7R's in August. I highly recommend you give a 218 or 328 REL a try. Lapierre's guidance on hook up is accurate. If (like me) you use fully balanced monoblocks, hook up is a little tricky, but still no big deal and the R...
What city do you live in? I live in Valhalla. My real name is Wotan.
Passive Pre-amp: Improves overall sound quality?? Do you suppose that Sunnyjim is really a troll, recognizing that we haven't all gotten our fists bloodied over the passive vs active debate for at least a month?
Passive Pre-amp: Improves overall sound quality?? I think Atmasphere presented a balanced (and correct) view. And thanks for sparing us the partial differential equations and first principles analysis of why passives are inherently at a disadvantage. I have benefited from use of passives while bu...
Review: Cary Audio Design SA500.1 Amplifier Mitch2,Thanks for your comments. I suppose one could say the new Cary's are more neutral. I would prefer to emphasise the superb timbral accuracy of the 500.1's and contrast it with what I would call a "euphonic" character in the 500's. A good exa...
Passive Pre-amp: Improves overall sound quality?? This topic has been discussed at length in the forums more times than I can count. You might want to take a look at what is already been said. At a high level, you will note that people have some passion around this topic. There are different type...
Music that everyone else loves but you just don't Yu, Very insightful comments!Everything Bach wrote was a prayer. He was a genius and a Lutheran, an inch wide and a mile deep. More focused and profound than simple, I would say.Beethoven- He had a soul as large as Bach, and his early tutor was a ...
Magnepan mg1.6 vs mg1.7 bass quality? Lecram, I never had the opportunity to hear the 2.7's, so I don't have that as a point of reference. I agree the 3.7's may be a stretch in your room, but mine are in a room 15 x 19 x 8. Take a look at my system pictures to get a feel for how they ...
Music that everyone else loves but you just don't Yu, I felt the same way about Chopin for years. My wife and daughter took up piano and began to work on Chopin night and day. It did not take long for me to grow to love his work. Curious, because most people find his music extremely beautiful at ...
Magnepan mg1.6 vs mg1.7 bass quality? Lecram, based on your stated preferences I'd say either go all the way up to the 3.7R's or else add a sub to your 1.6's. The Rel R-328 or R-218 mate well. Also, I'd suggest staying away from silver IC's etc. Stick with copper. |
