Recommend a GOOD recording in hi res file? I've been following this thread with interest. The OP shared a concern I have, which is that one could spend a lot of money on high rez files that don't sound that great. The response to his request has not exactly been overwhelming. If only 3 peop...
Active vs Passive Pre amps David, If you initially evaluated the Ref 3 and preferred your passive, I don't think that would be the correct move. As I read your post, the driver for you is better resolution in volume control, and perhaps better dynamics. Usually, the stepped...
Sony HAPZ1 For prospective buyers and owners I have about 85 hours of music play time in so far. Last night I noticed a very nice ripening of the upper harmonics has occurred. Cellos and brass were especially lovely last night. Also, I was really struck by the depth of image last night. I ha...
Coincident Linestage vs CJ CT5 or Allnic L-3000 Charles, right, nothing bovine about the Coincident gear! :)
Coincident Linestage vs CJ CT5 or Allnic L-3000 Charles, well said RE Israel's fine work on 101D implementation in the CSL. Based on my experience with the CSL and now my Triumph Extremes, he has my full attention. The franks are just a matter of time.
Coincident Linestage vs CJ CT5 or Allnic L-3000 Charles, my point was that honestly, all of the 101Ds, the Shuguangs, the HiFIs, and the WE replicas have arguably been superb tubes. The 101D pretty much is a superb tube by design. To my ears, the differential between the WE's and the HiFis was ...
Coincident Linestage vs CJ CT5 or Allnic L-3000 Charles and everyone, I'm up to my elbows in new stuff (OK, my ModWright Sony HAPZ1 and Coincident Triumph Extreme IIs) and trying to get my house up for sale. Hence, the delay in getting a serious, or even casual, A/B/C with my 101D tube collecti...
Advantages of a tube CD player over an SS player? I am in agreement with the comments of Charles and Lowrider above, but Audiolabyrinth has also hit on something very important which is implicit in Charles' comment but should be stated explicitly. It certainly helps to know what you like and disl...
Sony HAPZ1 For prospective buyers and owners Burn in continues. I have about 45 hours in so far. No huge changes since the post at 20 hours. The matched pair of 6CG7 (NOS RCA clear tops) tubes came Friday. I find these tubes to be a bit more to my liking than the new production EH 6922s. Str...
New Magnepan 3.7 i ? Moonglum, Thanks for the information. One question, did you audition the 3.7s's in the same room with the same ancillaries? I was careful and deliberate in auditioning speakers over a long period of time, beginning before the release of the 3.7s. ...
Your favorite musical non fatiguing speakers? Photon, I concede that had JSB been born in 1953, he would not have written high Baroque music. Your Part/Reich hybrid is a plausible hypothesis. 99.999% of all people are a product of their time, but people like JSB are a product of something els...
Your favorite musical non fatiguing speakers? Mapman, Don't tread on my Bach! Sorry, but I'm going to respectfully disagree with your thought that Bach had been of a more recent time he would have emulated the Devo style. For that, see Mozart or Handel. In actual fact, JSB continued writing m...
vacuum tube shelf life Al, 90 year old tubes! They predate Schubert. :)
Sony HAPZ1 For prospective buyers and owners Mitch, The ModWright mod requires use of an external PS 9.0 or PS 9.9 power supply. I am using the PS 9.0, which Dan prefers with the HAPZ1. I also have a PS 9.9 here, which I will use with my ModWright 5400.
Sony HAPZ1 For prospective buyers and owners Mitch, the front panel remains stock. The top has a standard mod wright plate where the tubes stick out (by no more than 2 or 3 mm). Very little visible change really. |
