Duelund conversion to DIY Helix Geometry Cabling
All this hype coming from people whose ears and brains I've grown to trust has me thinking.  A few years ago I made my own speaker cables from Duelund tinned copper and they are the best wires I've ever had.  So natural and so tonally correct!   B...
What have you been working on in 2020?
1. I rebuilt the crossovers on the speakers in my secondary system.2. I added additional treatments in my dedicated room.3. I ordered a Swarm system for the dedicated room.  Duke gets the     cabinets this week.   I hope I will have the Swarm in m...
Should a reference speaker be neutral, or just great sounding?
My thoughts on what constitutes a reference are similar to those from @kr4  above.   It is something that is well characterized and whose attributes are not in dispute.  Thinking in simple terms, it is like a graduated ruler, against which one can...
Great Intergated amp with great built in DAC
I use a Lyngdorf 2170 in my downstairs system.  I run my stock Oppo 205 out to the Lyngdorf via coax and it is substantially superior to using the internal Oppo DAC out to the Lyngdorf via XLR.  As has been mentioned above, with Lyngdorf integrate...
Where has been your most effective placement for an aftermarket fuse?
SR black in a Coincident CSL preamp.SR black in a ModWright Sony HAPZ1ES,  One fuse made a difference the other didn'tTried SR black in Coincident Frankenstein amps and they made zero difference. I'm thinking about trying Oranges in my AtmaSphere ...
How long is the break-in time for a Sophia Electric Blue 6SN7 tube?
The blue SN7s are good tubes.  I bought C grade tubes, which are fine for my application.  At $99/tube, these are still pricey tubes.  I had one go bad at about 6 months.   It went microphonic an had 60 Hz hum issues.  I would not leave these tube...
Why the truth is not in them ??
@millercarbon, I hope you did not mistake my comment as having been directed at you.   It wasn't!
Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?)
Hilde45, It sounds like you are making real progress.  With respect to spacial issues, your set up has an enormous advantage in that the side walls are completely innocent with respect to early reflections.   Side wall first reflections are the mo...
Why the truth is not in them ??
Millercarbon, have you noticed that those who can't win an argument on the merits of a position resort to ad hominem?
What has been your costliest mistake in this hobby?
@cd318, indeed!  I will never understand the thinking behind parts selection on speakers.   It seems that I do not understand the underlying economics.  On the other hand, it also seems that a few of the direct to customer guys are beginning to ru...
What has been your costliest mistake in this hobby?
I'm going to exclude buying stuff that I ended up not liking, because purchases of audio gear are always experiments.  So the stupidest thing I did was trying to disassemble a ribbon tweeter trying to see if I could upgrade the wiring to and from ...
Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?)
Hilde45, the impulse graph provides a single (multi frequency, I think) short sound (the impulse)  and records every reputation of that impulse until it completely decays.  You don't need to run the scans again, just select the impulse tab in the ...
Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?)
@hilde45,  I looked at your REW frequency response curves.  At a quick glance, they don't look that bad to me.  Most rooms that are not custom built for audio that are well treated will still show plus or minus 5 dB below 300 Hz.  I usually change...
Which one produces a bigger change... changing a rectifier tube or tubes on my DAC?
@deanshias, I have a modwright Sony HapZ1ES which shares which your Oppo the 6922 based output.  It is hard to answer your questions because both the rectifier and the 6922s can make a significant impact on the sound of the unit.   It really comes...
Best SET speaker combo under 5k new or used
Not sure why this post didn't generate more response.  Seems like a reasonable request for information, although a 5K limit on an SET amp/speaker is a little low even used.
