iPOD How many cds does it really Hold ?any Tips??
Apple Lossless and Sure E3c's for me. Make sure and try the different earpieces that come with the Sures. I didn't like the rubber tips, but the foam work great. Steve
What non-upsampling dac betters the DCS stack?
I've heard of one person who dumped his DCS for a Twin Dac Plus with a computer for a source. I just got my Twin Dac, so no opinion yet...using iBook as a sourceSteve
iTunes error messages during rip
First, always use error correction. It will make ripping a little slower but increase the sound quality...every little "bit" helps. I have never had a cd that iTunes would not read all the way thru..I also suspect a dirty or scratched disc...polis...

Advice on Setting Up A Laptop-Based Audio System?
How about a Griffin Powerwave? It takes USB from your Powerbook (which is better than spdif anyway) to a built in dac (I really don't know about the quality of the dac itself) and sends it to a built in tripath amp...$90 which gives you a lotof $$...
On the go.
That's the beauty of the iPod..you don't have to store anything as an mp3 file. I have over 25 hours of tunes on mine and all are stored as Apple lossless files. They are compressed but lossless. If you want you can store AIFF or WAV files (both u...
12 volt battery as power source
Well running off of battery is good. Running off a power inverter is not. The ac that comes out is worse than what comes out of your wall. Both of my amps, my turntable, and phono stage run off of battery (but all were designed that way), Digital ...
Looking for first system advice
I'm sure I'll get flamed for this advice but here it is anyway. The two speakers you mention both need seriously big amps to drive them. Big amps cost big money. Here's my equation for musical bliss on a budget. Start with very simple, crossoverle...
Goldmund JOB Stereo amplifier
How about a Final Labs Music-6? It's dead quiet and does PRAT a lot better than my 300b amp. For the first time in over 15 years I'm living without tubes..Steve
Nirvana Electronic Works NEW A-60 Amplifier.WOOW
I don't believe the amp was designed by Nelson Pass. According to Nelson the design for the smaller NEW amps was taken from his DIY designs and used w/o permission. I've read that the larger amps (DCA-66 and presumably the AC powered A-60) were de...
Favorite MP3 Player if you happen to use them
Ipod..one of the coolest products ever...to hold one is to want one. But remember you don't have yto use lossy formats with the Ipod..AIFF or WAV files can be used at the expense of storage and battery space.
Pure Power for 47 lab gear.
Pari, I have two questions for you: 1) Does the humpty stay in the system to recharge the Pure Power batteries or do you away with the Humpty completely?2) Can the system be operated without being plugged into the wall?I'm a big believer in batter...
AM/FM Analog Broadcast Future
I've never heard of such a thing but I wouldn't worry too much. Public Radio is always underfunded. Because they don't have the money to buy compressors and such, the sound quality is almost always better than commercial radio. They will wait unti...
What is the best pre-amp DIY kit for beginners?
Add to that the preamp from Welborne and if you want to do passive (TVC) the Django from DIY Hi Fi Supply (or I think Bent has a kit..same thing)
how 2 make a surge tank for the ET2
It's been a long time, but I used some decent sized PVC pipe...maybe about 3 feet long. Glued some rounded end caps to each end...I had to then seal each seam with clear sealant (caulk) to make it airtight. A couple of barbed fittings screwed into...
