Help building new system: devore, verity or Sonus?
Hey EdoGot the Nines and am working on tuning the room around them. Are they a little too much for the room: yes. Are they amazing; yes. I can always try out super 8's to see the difference, but I found a great deal and I'm happy.
Soundproofing and room correction for apartment?
Thanks so much Larry, really helpful! I'm going to start bit by bit so I can get a sense of how the things I add change things for the better.First definite changes will be platforms for my speakers, then wall to wall carpet with acoustic padding ...
Soundproofing and room correction for apartment?
So I had a small chat with my neighbors yesterday who said they can hear the bass from my stereo. I was listening at not-overly loud levels, although for me that may be louder than for them. I'm clearly going to have to address this. That, or give...
TW Raven 10.5" Tonearm
make sure it's a carbon fiber black sticker though ;)
Soundproofing and room correction for apartment?
Thanks everyone for the answers. I'm going to go slowly and just do the acoustic pad under wall to wall carpeting then put in record shelving and a tapestry or two, plus drapes on the windows. If my neighbors complain, then I'll look into heavier-...
Difference between Luxman L-550A II & L-507u
Thanks everyone for writing back. I had both the 505u and the 550A II in my system and wanted to briefly post my results. First off, both are fantastic and I could easily live with both. As is always the case, it comes down to my own listening pre...
Cool vintage audio site
Wow, that site is intense.
recommendations for TT + arm + cart, around $3.5k
I have some radical advice for you: sell your Peachtree and new amp and get a very good integrated and separate phono stage and DAC. For about the same money as you're willing to spend on a TT + Cartridge + Arm, you could provide your speakers wit...
Dynamics at lower volumes?
As with certain tube designs, some Class A designs sound particularly good at lower level. I think it would maybe follow that more efficient speakers are probably better at low levels than greatly inefficient speakers, as they need less juice to o...
Cool vintage audio site
Definitely cool, thanks for sharing. You may also enjoy http://hificollector.blogspot.com/ which has some great classic gear too (disclaimer: I have no involvement in hificollector, except being a gear dork who needs to get a life!)
Speakers for Luxman L 505 u
I would first try using the tone controls, or examine what in your room is possibly leading to this bass issue. I don't believe you absolutely have to build your system around your speakers, but in my experience it's easier just because shipping s...
Anyoen hear the Sonus Faber Liutos?
I haven't heard the Concerto's, so can't say if it will be an upgrade, but I have heard the Liuto's with an ARC vs-i60 integrated and an Ayre cd player. I thought they sounded very good, especially given their relatively small footprint. They had ...
Any DACs have the Sabre 32bit D/A Converter ??
The Cary Xciter uses an AKM 32-bit chip, as does the entry level sim dac I think. Cary can come up used around $1000
Difference between Luxman L-550A II & L-507u
Harbeth has been on of the brands I"m looking at (probably HL5) and Devore (gibbon super 8 or Nines). Thoughts with either Luxman?
Difference between Luxman L-550A II & L-507u
Thank you for the detailed answer. Since you are around both pieces a lot, could you tell me about the heat output? The 550 ran pretty warm, but thankfully not as hot as the 590. How is the 507 in terms of heat? Also, any feeling about the onboard...
