Need speaker suggestion for a larger room!
Once again - my thanks to all who have offered suggestions.I'm filing this thread for reference.Spencer's and sbank's comments seem logical as to my environment. If they're correct, looks like I'm best off with bi-polars, and if the later powered ...
Which area of components to spend the most $ on? Boy I was wrong all my life!
What a Thread...!First thought: it's generally conceded that speakers have thetoughest job - transducing electronic energy to physical. It followsthat here is where the "soundpath"is more likely to degrade. The source starts the journey at 100% (?...

Pardon the tardy response. My thanks to all that have responded. I'm at a loss which way to turn, as there were so many differentsuggestions. The most intriguing was from sbank. Does a fairly live room devalue cone or horn speakers? I would think ...

Holy mackerel!  I've no idea where to begin. Looks like I've opened Pandora's Box! I'll "do diligence" and seek out opinions on as many of these as I'mable. Can't personally audition even a few of them.No comments on my preamp/ amp combo? I'm acqu...

Two reasons, M-db: 1. Most will be stretched gettingto the 350 hz crossover in the Ascents, and 2. a space problem, believe it or not (I'm still married!)Bo
full-scale orchestral music—best test of speakers’ potential?
You all are underscoring an issue that is seldom considered:YOUR acoustics (hearing). It's unrealistic to assume that everyone's hearing transmits audio nuance EXACTLY the same - from our tympani's, our Cochlear complex, our auditory nerve canal a...

Audio tech stylus replacement source - any help?
Chakster??  No Comprende. Nicht verstehe.Mofi: I think I'm better off sending the cartridge in it's shell to Sound Smith or Needle Doctor and let them deal with it.Thanks to all who responded. That's what makes the Audiogonsite special! Best,Bo
Audio tech stylus replacement source - any help?

Audio tech stylus replacement source - any help?
I appreciate the responses, folks!   If It is a moving coil, is it salvageable by a pro?
Audio tech stylus replacement source - any help?
Actually, I don't know if it's a moving coil, or a moving magnettype. But I'm told it's a top model for Audio Technica at thetime.
What were your humble beginnings on the path to high end audio?
To PC:High quality sound is measured by your ears, not someoneelse's. High dollars spent can give you an edge, but with all the variables at play (cartridges, amps, speakers, etc, let alone differences in individual hearing patterns), no one can s...
What were your humble beginnings on the path to high end audio?
You're right, pc: to re-frame a familiar phrase "Beauty is in the ears of the auditioner"!  Like so much else in life, appreciation of reproduced sound is a subjective (personal) experience.  I'm weary of the unending commentaries assuring that th...
What were your humble beginnings on the path to high end audio?
My intro goes 'way back - to 1952:   A Meisner 16 tube 2-chassistuner-preamp-amp combo, a Webcore changer w/GE Var reluctance turnaround cart, and a University 6200 12" speaker + corner base reflex.A year later, a Revere Tape recorder (all but th...
