Amp / Speaker combo ~5k
Thanks everyone. Thing is, this is a main room system that will share TV inputs, so I need it to be reliable, and visually acceptable. I'm thinking of buying the amp first and then doing in-house demos of speakers.

Interesting, stereo5. Do you mind sharing what speakers you were using with the Halo? This is a family room system, so I need a flexible, reliable amp with multiple inputs.
Focal Aria 936 vs 926 bass response
Thanks everyone for the responses. Any considerations for the listening distance? On their website Focal recommends 10-12 feet for the 936, and I am around 8-9 feet. My room is fairly large but the speakers are on the long wall.
Focal Aria 936 vs 926 bass response
Sjtm, Thanks for your response. So it sounds like you found an appreciable difference between the 826v and 836v bass response? As I said, I have not been able to demo the 926, so it's speculation on my part as to what I would be giving up. Just cu...
Revel F12's ---- A very happy upgrade for me.
minimus, I have the Beta 40 and feel the same way. Just curious, what amplifier are you using? I have a 60 watt integrated and am wondering if the Infinitys would sound better with more watts.
Back to it - Practical speaker upgrade
Thanks for sharing, xti16. mesch, I'd say you summed it up here, and why I am leaning towards the second system. Being in the family room and having other A/V responsibilities, my primary system has too many constraints. With the breadth of afford...
Back to it - Practical speaker upgrade
Based on the number of responses, I think I wasn't clear on the question. I thought there would be more interest in this. This isn't a gear question so much as an approach question. I'll restate it a different way:The options I am looking at are:1...
Back to it - Practical speaker upgrade
Thanks, celtic66 -- My question is directed more to approach than individual components. Presently sources include a Cambridge 640c CD player, and a Squeezebox through a Musical Fidelity DAC. I have AZ and Audioquest ICs and upgraded AC stuff.I di...
Which direction should I go?
My current speakers are Beta Infinity 40 towers. They have decent clarity, but lack involvement. They were always meant as a stand-in. I haven't had time lately to listen a lot, much less audition upgrades. So, hence my thinking is get something r...
Any devices like Squeezbox Touch but handle 192/24
I have asked this before, wondering if I can get a clarification. I have a squeezebox touch: If I stream hi rez from my Mac to the touch using the Squeezebox Server, am I getting 24/96? Or can you only get that out of the SB if you hook up directl...
Logitech Squeezebox Touch DAC: How Good?
A question, and a followup to my previous post. I have a Touch that I stream to from a MAC. Is the Touch receiving 24/96 for my hi res files? I know that there is a 16 bit limitation for the streaming with Apple Airport with iTunes, but is the Tou...
V-DAC owners: Upgraded power cable on PSU?
The C7 is an unpolarized connector used instead of an IEC. My question should probably be if anyone is using an upgraded power cord on their external power supply for the V-DAC. In terms of the connector from power supply to the V-DAC, I wonder if...
Logitech Squeezebox Touch DAC: How Good?
Can someone confirm that the Touch will do hi res 24/96 over USB? Currently, I am streaming AIFF files using iTunes from one Mac to another. Current setup looks like this:Mac #1 (with iTunes library on external HD), which I access wirelessly from ...
CDP breaks and I move to computer-based...
As it turns out, 4est was right, something simple was wrong: The EQ option was active on iTunes, which imparted a subtle but noticeable effect on dynamics and overall presence. This is what I perceived as *lacking* in my original post.

Computer is a Macbook Pro notebook with 4 gig ram, running the latest version of OS X. I am using iTunes with all iTunes processing (EQ/soundcheck,etc...) turned OFF. File format is apple lossless. In terms of background processes, I wouldn't thin...
