Single ended to XLR adapter Just wanted to give an update for whoever is interested. I bought the Cardas RCA to XLR adapters and am now using the XLR inputs on the Parasound JC-1s. The results are quite good. A dramatic improvement IMO. The main improvements I hear are black...
Need Copper Cables for 18ft Runs: Bang for Buck I vote to try the Alpha Core MI-2. Not sure about the synergy with Def Tech. Of the cables I have had in my system the Alpha Core is the best regardless of price. I used Kimber Bifocal XL for years and the Alpha Core is better in every respect. Ke...
Preamp Deal of the Century That has been my experience with my Chenin. When selector is in phono position with TT hooked up and grounded - dead quiet. When selector is in phono position and no TT hooked up - hum and some hiss.

wadia 861 input output disabling Thanks - I will try setting the corresponding switches. Aoliviero I see you have had your Wadia modded by GNS. Is the mod a huge improvement? I feel the image (mostly vocals) in my system is slightly fuzzy around the edges. I was thinking maybe th...
Preamp Deal of the Century Mine did the same thing until I hooked up a TT. After hooking up a TT it should quiet down. Maybe something to do with ground?
Has anyone tried JC1 and B&W 802Ds? I have a buddy who has an A23 and P3. I run JC1s and I think that the character of the sound is similar to the A23. I have not heard the A21 but I would bet it is similar. Im not familiar with your speakers but if you like the A21 you will probabl...

High Pass a hard-to-drive speaker - Now Easy???? I tried to run my Vandy 3A Sigs (a difficult to drive speaker) with 125 tube watts (EL34s). I have (2) 2WQ subs and model 5 x over thinking the same. For me, in my room it just did not work. I had to go to large solid state to get the sound I was ...
alphacore users break in question Sorry, I just realized I used the dreaded "S" word in my last post.
alphacore users break in question I just wanted to give an update. After 100 hrs I am pleasantly surprised to say the MI2 cables are sounding very good. They still are not quite there but I am confident they will continue to break in and get better. I guess it all boils down to sy...
whats your idea of loud music. FWIW I believe OSHA says levels at 90 db are safe for up to 8 hrs and 105 db safe for up to 1 hr. I generaly listen at 85 to 90 db for several hrs.
CAT vs. Aesthetix vs. Supratek - Preamp Choice I recently compared the Supratek Chennin, CAT Ultimate, Supratek Cabernet, and Aesthetix IO phono stage all together the same day. For the line stage I thought the Cat and Chennin were neck and neck for 1st place. The Cabernet just sounded awful t...
alphacore users break in question Thanks everyone. I checked the Alphacore site and they claim no break in needed. My dealer on the other hand is insisting that there is a substantial break in period. I guess time will tell. Im going to give them a couple hundred hrs and report ba...
alphacore users break in question Thanks for the responses. I am using Vandersteen 3A sig with stereo 2WQs. Amps are Parasound JC 1s. As I stated before the Alphacore MI2 I demoed were fantastic. The demo cables had no extra networks or capacitors. Sound is slow with very little m... |
