Is the Merill "Gem Dandy" turntable far superior in sound than the Project RPM-3 TT??
I personally don't care for the Project arm's fishline antiskating system., Also, for reasons I have stated, I like a detachable headshell, as I interchange 15 different cartridges. Have you considered Regas, as they come with a dustcovere [but so...
Is the Merill "Gem Dandy" turntable far superior in sound than the Project RPM-3 TT??
I think if you change cartridges infrequently, the Project package would be the best bet; if, however, you like  to change cartidges around a lot the Jelco allows you to do so in 5 minutes or  so because of its detachable headshell.
Is a Music Hall MMF 9.1 a significant upgrade over a Thorens TD 160 mk ii?
I've had the following turntables in the last 5 years: Music Hall 5.1 se, Project xpression III, Rega P3, P5, RP6 and RP8 with about 14 different cartridges priced all the way up to $1280  including  MMs and MCs. I now have a restored Thorens TD 1...
Teac TN 550/570
Well, as far as the anniversary Project, I agree it does look great, but why wasn't the better tonearm used as on the upper models? To keep the price near $1000? {I notice I've gotton no responses as to the Teac turntables at or near the $1000 pri...
New Technics 1200
Thank you, Paraneer; are there ANY positive opinions re the Hanpin clones from other Audiogoners? I have read very good reports in Stereophile as to the Pioneer PLX 1000, and Mapleshade thinks very highly of the Stanton 150 to the point they belie...
New Technics 1200
All this is interesting as to  opinions about the new Technics 1200, but my original question's intent was to address merits of the recent Hanpin clones compared to the original 1200Mk2.. I guess I wasn't clear, for which I apologize.
Can "Refurbished" Thorens turntables sound better, and worth taking a chance on??
Well, I've had a VPI, two Projects, 2 Music Halls, and 4 Regas all the way up to the RP8. My Thorens are both fitted with Jelco 750D arms. and I rotate about 13 cartridges easily due to the Jelco's detachable headshell. Cartridges include two Deno...
Feedback on Vinyl Nirvana Thorens Turntables
Suggest you go to V.N's video and check out Daves rationale  for the restored vintage Thorens and their expected lifespans. I'v had a 125II, TD 150, and TD 160 super, and I've been happy with all of them and V.N.'s service.
MC cartridges and metal platters
Thanks again, Viridian; looks like my restored TD 150 and 160 Super pass the  nonpermeability test, and I can continue interchanging my 4 LOMC cartridges between them.   czarivey: I looked up  QRK   turntables, found it quite interesting. Thanks f...
MC cartridges and metal platters
What about Thorens zinc alloy composition platters, Viridian?Needless to say, I've forgotten my college chemistry.
MC cartridges and metal platters
Thanks so much; mystery finally solved!
Rega, Pro-ject, Music Hall, NEED help
P.S: I just realized your budget is about $1000; the restored Thorens price would be higher, without cartridge.  Therefore, having owned all 3 of the TTs you mentioned] I would go with the Music Hall 5.3 with installed Ortofon bronze. An easy choi...
Rega, Pro-ject, Music Hall, NEED help
Well, I had all those turntables you listed, except mine was the MusicHall  5.1.There was not much difference I liked the Rega because of the ease in installing  Rega cartridges, which I, however, do not like, all the way up to the exact.  I trade...
What's your biggest surprise in hifi?
Response to Jafont: It was a Naim nait, which later was later replaced by a Supernait, which produced no better sound.
ARE YOU A " TRUE EXPERT AUDIOPHILE " ( T E A ) ???
bare bones definition: "one who seeks perfection in the reproduction of recorded music."
