KEF 103.2 - what to expect?
Like your Dad, I had KEF 102s and 104s driven by NAD 3200 power envelope amp. A gift from Pink Floyd and A & M Studios in 1987. Just gave them to my daughter in 2007 and they still lumber on. Great mid ranges with KEF; true BBC studio monitor....
Best system you can assemble for peanuts ?
Ipod connected to a Blue Sky Audio Exo. $300 and rocks my office. Second choice: the Logitec M50 boombox.
Which songs/albums take you back to college?
The Knack's My Sharona and Rick Jame's Super Freak. So much the soundtrack of every collegiate dance you just wanted to vomit. Thank God the Clash came out with Sandinista and allowed me to participate via cassette and the first generation Walkman...
Noisy vinyl from Classic Records
Their quality control sucks. Have two titles--terrible.

Yeah, the motto at Stax was "funky and simple".
Les Paul dead at 84 nt.
Absolutely. Very beautiful riffs and multi-tracking--way ahead of his time.
Les Paul dead at 84 nt.
Amazing. A true giant. No one defined the sound of rock better than Les and Leo Fender. Their signature sounds influenced millions of aspiring musicians.
any early 80's alt/soft punk fans out there?
Shadorne: All the Aussie bands from that period sounded great out of that studio. How about all the seminal albums by Midnight Oil. Probably the best live act, next to vintage INXS, from that time period. The snarling fury of "Hercules" live is bu...

Forgot to shout out the Plimsouls and Walls of Voodoo, other seminal LA bands.

Good call Jorge. How about Ska, the reggae mutant that existed next to New Wave and post punk. The whole 2 Tone Movement was great: The Beat, Madness, Specials, Rico, Selecters, etc...Some of the best music to come out in 1979 to 1983. I remember h...

I saw Booker back Neil Young in Europe, Summer 1993, with the entire MGs as the backup band. Booker loved the feel of those dates and tried to recreate this with Potato Hole. Neil returned a favor by contributing with this album. The shows are leg...

Shandorne: excellent golf shot. Great album!!!
I can't believe it Big Surprises in Music
I saw Springsteen do a solo benefit show at the Shrine Auditorium in November 1990 with Jackson Browne where he played the solo piano! My perfect "Big Surprise" is top end talent playing small shows. Shows that come to mind:Jimmy Buffet walking int...
Reissue recordings with added tracks
I personally love them. I am an artist away from all this audiophile stuff so I can appreciate the progression of ideas. With the exception of the original gallery show (i.e. the album), you would never see the sketch books leading up to the final...

Bander: I'll put in a plug for Graham Parker. Graham Parker was awesome, especially the "Live Sparks" album. I love his song "Mercury Poisoning." The best kiss-off song targeting a record label, ever. Along with the Sex Pistols "EMI", you could fl...
