Wadia 861
Well,,,,,,,I have changed my opinion somewhat on the Wadia 861! I actually bought one despite my ho-hum to negative comments on it (vs. the Gryphon Adagio)! Since I bought this player, I've had it on 24/7 & got a chance to take it over to a fr...
symphonic Line RG4 III vs RG4 IV?
Yes, the Toshibas are reputed to have a better midrange than the Sanken equivalents. I understand from a long-time & Symphonic Line experienced dealer that the RG 4 Mk 2 (used Toshibas) had a better midrange than the Mk 3. Oh well....
Radio Shack Sould Level Meter - Analog Meter
SMD stands for Surface Mount Device. It's a way to package ICs that are being used in the SPL meter so that they consume less space on the PC board. Also, there are machines that are used to mount these ICs & solder them (i.e. it is automated)...
Do the Jeff Rowland 201 amplifiers have warmth?
Funny! I know "Hantra" (who made the Audiocircle post) as he is a local audiophile who lives about 10 miles south of me! I never knew about his experimenting w/ the Model 201 amps! Oh well.....Well, I've been in email contact w/ him: he is not usi...
Radio Shack Sould Level Meter - Analog Meter
I see it now on the Radio Shack website. Part # is 33-4050 (& not 31-XXXX)!Looks better than the older one. Same flawed performance, I suppose, that needs appropriate compensation!
My frugal dream be merciless
Be glad to call on some of you when I'm visiting ATL again. I thought of doing this when I was there but I wasn't sure whether I would have gotten time to frolick. In the mean time do check out Dave @ Earth Shaking Music.
My frugal dream be merciless
When I was visiting Atlanta over the Christmas break I had the opportunity to listen to a system that cost about what you want to spend!Antique Sound Labs (ASL) 20W/ch power amp for $650ASL passive transformer-based pre T1-DT $400Cain & Cain A...
Wadia 301 cannot read disk
Markvetnz,From my many conversations & communications w/ Steve @ GNSC, I understand that he is a certified Wadia service center & that he can make mods, service, replace, upgrade Wadias just like the Wadia factory can. The only thing, AFAI...
Do the Jeff Rowland 201 amplifiers have warmth?
I have some spotty 2nd-hand info on the new 13lb Model 201s:- A friend upgraded from his Model 2 to these new amps & he is very satisfied with them. He informs me that he is now grinning from ear-ear when he plays them. He has them for just 2 ...
enough watts to drive these speakers? Help?
Fatparrot,Just saw your comments. 6dB loss in SPL per doubling of distance is correct! We are not talking about a power measurement here; rather, a voltage measurement when we read off SPL on a meter. Hence, 20*log() rather than 10*log(). Another ...
enough watts to drive these speakers? Help?
Your calculations assumed that your friend would be listening at 1m (3.3ft) from the speaker in his bedroom. Would that really be the case?If not, one loses 6dB when one moves back from 1m to 2m. Then one loses 3dB when one moves back from 2m to 3...
Lovan Sovereign racks, thoughts?
I too have the Lovan Sovereign 2+2 rack. I prefer this one to the "classic" rack offered by Lovan because the shelves are supported on all 4 sides vs. a triangular shelf for the classic design.I have not filled mine with anything so far & the ...
What is the difference in CD transports?
Sean,I think that your logical thinking is on the right track!I think that Wadia uses 1 clk for both transport & DAC when one buys their 270 transport & 27 DAC. The clock is in the DAC unit & is fed back to the transport using a glass ...
What is the difference in CD transports?
A learned engineer @ one of the well-known & respected digital player companies wrote this once. I have picked this snippet up from his post:-There are really only 3 three main parts to any transport. 1) the CD mechanism to read the data off t...
Negative feedback, voltage and output impedance
One other amp that I noticed that has user selectable negative feedback is the Cary 805C Anniv edition. When I visited the Cary Audio facility, we heard that amp (great sound!) Kirk suggested that we use it w/ feedback set at 0 i.e. disabled. BTW,...
