How do you store and catalog your vinyl?
I keep it simple. I have a couple of shelves built into a wide closet especially for LP.s.All are alphabetical , separated by according to Genre. Same with CDs, which number around 500,which are all  in pullout drawers. Record collection is a bit ...
Don't like vinyl
To each his own. But for me, an audio system without a turntable is like Dolly Parton with a flat chest. Still pretty, but missing an important ingredient(s).
Ever feel like a "low dollar" customer that your dealer doesn't think worth their time?
I drove my truck to a high end audio shop in a rather upscale neighborhood 27 years ago, dressed down in blue jeans and a flannel shirt. I was initially going to show up with my wife , who is quite attractive, in her car; a car was more "respectib...
Loudness - Why has the industry stopped producing amplifiers with this feature any longer?
For a few years , starting In the early 90s I had a Yamaha rx570 with a variable tone control, and Paradigm 9semk3 towers. The combo could sound thin and lifeless at low volumes; the variable loudness control worked wonders. In my second system  I...
What was your most disappointing album purchase?
Yeah it was. But I kind of had my purchases mixed up. I bought Major Works in the early 90s.I gave it away to someone who actually appreciated it soon after.     My original disappointing album was Ascension I'm pretty sure,  but might have been O...
What was your most disappointing album purchase?
The Major Works of John Coltrane. I thought it was a compilation album. Instead it was his later experimental stuff. I only had Giant Steps at the time and was trying to broaden my collection on a budget. I'm getting a headache just typing about i...
CD Transports
I have had the Audiolab CDT for several months. Can't recommend it enough. One of the best audio purchases I've made.    A friend of mine has the Cambridge CXC. He is considering replacing it with the Audiolab and moving the CXC to another setup....
Do we ask too much of our audio systems?
One of the many traps of the audiophile hobby is thinking if the system is better, the music will sound better.   In my experience, yes and no. The more revealing a system is, the more it will emphasize both the strengths and weaknesses of recordi...
Tube Preamp with Solid State Amp?
If I had those speakers,I would go full tube. I run a tube pre and a high current solid state amp because  I own Magneplanars. You simply don't need much power at all to run Klipsch. There are probably tons of suggestions out there for great matche...
How many people here generally buy used?
My current system is a mix of new and used. My newest piece is a dac, bought 3 months ago. My oldest piece is a 25 year old tube preamp, bought used several years ago. Couldn't have afforded it if new. Bought amp, sub, and turntable used, speakers...
Why do you think Bi-Wiring improves the sound ?
Some years back I had speakers that could be bi-wired or bi- amped.     The only advantage I see now from bi- wiring is you will already own the wire if you decide to Bi-amp,Which I eventually did do.If that isn't a future consideration, don't bot...
