Cheap receiver + amp vs Expensive receiver
Think about this: whenever you've purchased something/anything, how many times have you said to yourself "I wish I had spent a little more for better quality"? Then think about how many times you've said "I wish I had bought the cheaper lower qual...
Power Cord CDP Termination
But by running current through some of the old power cord, wouldn't that defeat the purpose using of a better one? it will still work fine even with the pigtail. If you like the results (and you may wish to experiment with different upgrade cords ...
Analog Tuner Existence.....
digital FM is just another subcarrier riding / sucking up bandwidth on the main analog carrier which will always be there. There's nothing HD about it. If you compromise buying a cheap tuner you get what you pay for. Invest in a quality product &a...
Building addition: cable runway recommendations
Panduit makes a wiremold rectangular plastic duct product in various sizes which fastens to the wall & has snap-on removable covers. There are competing products available; ensure that whetever you use, the cover is capable of being opened up ...
Tube preamp and McCormack DNA-500
have very good results driving McCormack with a Golden Tube SEP2. The SEP3 is the same pre but with a separately boxed power supply (for allegedly lower noise). Great stage & imaging, full bodied, musical, warm sonic signature, remote control,...
stupid SR cable ?, can I string ICs together??
Oz I see what you mean now. Yes you would use two shielding power sources, one for each cable, even when series-connected. The shielding voltage stops at the end connectors; it does not travel through from one to another.
Upgrading wall outlets
This thread is a hoot I must post the following short reminders......all amplifiers sound the same......all cables sound the same......all (insert ignorant statement) sound the same...AND: ALL DOUBTING THOMAS'S SOUND THE SAMEfwiw: this one's been ...
Can someone give me some insight.
This is the problem with borrowing from Cable Co; not enough time to settle, especially when auditioning a number of variables. They don't tell you that; they surely didn't explain it to me either. I learned to know better both here & from my ...
Power conditioner needed????
congratulations on your perseverance John. This is hardly the first time that someone has resolved an issue without really understanding exactly what happened & why. I was thinking though, if you have further problems with the DVD player you c...
stupid SR cable ?, can I string ICs together??
Certainly you can series connect your cables without causing any harm, if that's what you're asking? Obviously it won't yield optimum sound quality, which apparently you already realize. With or without the adapters. And you can certainly use diff...
Good looking and nice glass speaker stands
YIKES is right! You really need to think about this.It doesn't seem like a good idea at all; glass resonates like mad & the sound would be anything but neutral. Why a component rack shelf would be made of glass (some are) is completely beyond m...
New FedEx Ground and USPS Arrangement
REALLY wondering about FedX Ground anymore? Used to use them occassionally with no trouble at all...In late May I ordered an industrial grade water pump (65 pounds) from a northern Chicago suburb; for home delivery to my rural address ~60 miles so...
Grounding ?
If you're really paranoid you can simply connect the chassis of the primary grounded component (typically preamp) to the chassis' of other componentry. Any reasonable size (black insulation color for appearance) (14awg & stranded for flexibili...
Best tubes 6922 for my Sonic Frontiers SFCD1 ?
try an upgrade AC cord on the CDP, many options & different sonic signatures so you must experiment. Also look into shelves, cones, footers. experimentation is required for best results.
Upgrading wall outlets
I did not experience major sonic advances on a household shared circuit by upgrading to a Hubbel industrial or Leviton commercial, although there was definitely worthwhile improvement in either case. However on a dedicated 30 amp circuit when I swa...
