van morrison's best sounding album?
Just try one that has some music of his you're familiar with. Once you play it you'll want more! You cannot own just "one" Van. Yes, I'm a fan. One of the enduring talents of our time. Enjoy.
Sonic Frontiers SFL-1 Sig preamp mods?
Did you see the modded SL-1 here on audiogon? $650.00 for a upgraded unit? Check it out. I think it was modded by Parts Connection. You could always try this unit, compare with your own and sell the loser.....Could be a win, win situation. Good-luck
tube pre amp to match Sim audio w-3 or w-5
Do try the Sonic Frontiers. I used a SFL-1 for several years with a simaudio 4070. The N.E.W P3[single-ended triodes] was special on the sim also. However N.E.W. is out of business and the pre had no remote. Cary can repair them though, I've heard...
Has anyone tried vibrapods with the Sony XA777ES
You could try racket balls sitting in the vibrapods. The balls must contact the units underside and be properly loaded by the top weight. They are cheap and give you an idea of what direction you're going. The bike inner tube works too but check o...
Best Tweak???
A dry red really helps the listening experience. Seriously though, I think there are 3 must tweaks. Room treatment[room dependent of course], vibration and isolation treatments and power line treatments. To pick just one is hard as they all three ...
Phono stage and preamplifier opinions....
And now for something entirely different. If you look around you might score an old krell pam3 at a resonable price. This unit is dual mono design and has a lovely phono stage. This would be one cheap way to get a very flexable phono stage that ca...
Review: Toshiba SD 3960 CD Player
Hi. I own a Tosh 3950[unmodded]. My present player is a Bruce Armstong nopariel. To get more from cd I've been advised[by ears I know and trust]I would be looking at the Sim audio top player and players in its' range. So I've listened to the Tosh ...
OK Come Clean, whats in your closet ?
A brute of a receiver, a Sony STR7065. The tuner in this thing is very good. It has apparently died a quiet death but it is too handsome with its wood cabinet to just toss. a couple of little speakers, Yamaha tuner, Koss dvd, misc wires and ic's. ...
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
Dan, I had the pleasure of hearing this speaker years ago. It played music with ease. Seemed to love plenty of power but I really like it. It was in quite a large room. It has great dynamic swing.....cheers, Lloyd
Who Was Your Favorite One Hit Wonder
Man, what memories. Great fun. I'll add "Mississippi Queen" by Mountain..... "Spirit in the sky" has to be one of my all-time favs. I also like "Your love has lifted me higher" Jackie Wilson the original I think? When you read these titles it make...
Question about Burr Brown DACs
Listen to the BB1751 dac in the little toshiba 3950 dvd player. This is their cheapest dac but the sound quality from cd on this player is amazing for the money. Will it beat your big rigs? No, but it has a relaxing, engaging manner of presentatio...
Need Help Subsonic Filters, where can I get one?
Look for Nakamichi SF-10 subsonic filters. Years ago they used to sell for about $20.00CDN. Dealers that sold Nak might have some of these laying around. Good luck.
What effects soundstage more ....
You could give Ernie at the Inner Ear Mag an e-mail. They reviewed the obbligato's some time ago. He could tell you what amps they tried them with. I do remember they loved this speaker. Good-luck...
Spk cable with deep,lush,spacious sound....
You could buy some 2nd-hand Acoustic Zen satori on the gon here. It [to my ears] has a nice "fullness" to notes, easy to listen to and forget about....and you can always resell it if it doesn't work for you. There are better wires out there but fo...
Are today's interconnects really better?
Elizabeth, a friend of mine who used to work in audio still has his PBJ's but he terminated them with the bullet plugs. I haven't heard them yet but he is very happy with the results. Season's best everyone....
