Garbage in - Garbage out?
Speaker sets the tone and color of the sound, and it is limited by how low it can go usually. Good sources are to have a refined high, show off dynamic as much as possible, and give out good signal/noise ratio. Amplification is taking the signal f...
Best Component Ever, for the money
Audio Research PH3, you need $$$K more to beat this one.
SACD- my intial thoughts....
If the gear can't handle the details of a SACD, it can't handle a good redbook player either. A SACD DAC at higher sampling rate is easier to design being smooth sounding. If you put your Nu-Vista on the same set-up, I think, it will not sound as g...
C-J Premier 12's vs. ARC VT100 MKII--advice?
Agree with Philjolet.ARC is more transparent, so you probably can tune the sound by changing your interconnects and cables. Nordost is on the opposite side of what you are moving to based on your description. Use a warmer IC and cables first, see ...
Best receiver for sonus f. Grand Piano under 3000
Hear in the store, I don't like B&K driving GP for music. If receiver is what you want, I suggest trying top line marantz. I hear older SR-18 on Concerto and they sound better to me. Marantz is warmer and may match SF's house sound better than...
Question for ARC line stage owners
Infinite cap on my LS-15 makes the mid more open and liquid. Using Siemens tube also makes the high smoother and deeper bass. Balance in/out in LS-15 sounds better than SE.
Anyone heard the Usher speakers?
Sattothestar,Does the tweeter has the same spec as scanspeak, directly changeable or you have to modify the crossover?I agree with you, love C paper cone woofer but not the tweeter. Thanks if you can give more info about your experience.
How important is speaker positioning? My experience
Anybody ever try different hight on small speakers? What do you think the golden rule should be?Thanks for the input.
What's My Problem?
There was thread about passive preamp not long ago. Some made good points there. The purpose of have an active preamp is to have a more flat input/output resistance across the spectrum as well as input amplitude. This is more important than to pro...
Speakers that have holographic imaging on vocals..
Flat panel tends to sound big and detail (guess the air move like plane wave). But to my ears, it is like a big peace of glass, huge sound stage but brittle. For vocal, the soundstage is sometimes exagerrating too much that I feel it like a big pi...
How can an active preamp possibly help?
Exactly, a poor impedance matching will cause distortion. Remember: impedance is a function of frequency, therefore a good matching across the audo spectrum is important. Be sure you know what you are doing when go passive. One or two resistors do...
SACD- my intial thoughts....
Ben,Yes! thanks for reading and understanding my post.TWL would be happy to hear people like LP (I need your suggestion in the end).I believe some new audiophiles can gain something if I explain it clear enough. One suggestion for other audiophile'...
SACD- my intial thoughts....
Ben,I believe some of SACD are remastered of old master tapes. If CD was done in earlier days while master tape still in its prime. Then, there may be some CD sounds better than SACD version, plus recording/remaster engineer's ear has to do with hi...
SACD- my intial thoughts....
Some people don't care sound quality, and some are not well educated to tell the difference.I am an engineer, so let me put it in this way.Higher sample and more bits of info need more data storage. What you gain from there? Higher sample rate wil...
Power cords
Would like to think power cable is part of you power supply CKT. The resistance, capacitiance, inductance, and RF shielding on the input side of your transformer may play a subtle role of affecting the regulated voltage in your amp or DAC. And the...
