Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend? I'm not going to read this whole 2 year old thread but can offer the best tweak I've ever had. Bought a used copy of the original 'Rolling Stone Record Guide' (1979) off of Ebay recently. I had this book when it was new but misplaced it over the y...

paradigm + sony da777es Studio 60 or maybe 20 and active subwoofer. Studio 100 need a lot of amplifier don't think you would be happy driving them with a receiver.
Home Theater? A 2ch preamp w/ pass thru would make a big difference for music. You can get a Proceed PRE for cheap now that should be better than most processors for 2ch.

Something wrong with the Studio 100 v.2? These speakers require more amplifier than than they are usually demo'd with. I started out w/ an Anthem MCA 20 and experienced pretty much what you described. When I switched to a Classe CA 200 everything fell into place.
Home Theater and Two Channel With Out Reciever? Hear4, the preamp will have an input called surround or processor and is spec'd as unity or zero gain. If your preamp has this feature it is probapbly labeled as a source selection. My 2-channel preamp is a Proceed and the unity gain input is call...
Home Theater and Two Channel With Out Reciever? Hear 4, the 'surround or home theater loop' also refered to as 'unity gain' input is a feature of a 2-channel preamp not the home theater receiver. This feature allows a 2-channel system to be incorporated into a home theater system. When this fea...
Why vinyl? I have recently gotten back into vinyl after 15 years. All things being equal I prefer the sound over cd's. The only down side of vinyl to me is the time limitation of one side of a record. But other than sound quality there is something special a...

Home Theater and Two Channel With Out Reciever? I think the surround loop is a fairly common feature on preamps now. McIntosh & Conrad Johnson were the only tube preamps with surround loops I auditioned but I'm sure there are many more. |
