@slaw  Not that I noticed Steve. To be honest I’m not sure spec-wise what their gain is vs the 12au7’s, but know from reading, many have used them in place of au’s, and seemingly ‘equivalent’.

@noromance Well, the CBS-Hytron 5814A‘s arrived, and was anxious to compare them to the Brimar’s. Wow, I think I like these a lot. More detailed and ‘clear’. Because of that, the dynamics seem as good if not better. Listening to some complex orc...

@noromance Thanks Brian. Just checked, they will arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to checking them out. I love the Tele/Dynaco smooth plate AX7’s, so will be interesting to compare these ‘au7’s’ with them, and see which works better together.

@noromance  My Brimar’s are NOS CV4003 originally from Upscale. And no, not black plate. Yea, the Amperex are said to be quite good, but obviously much more $$$. As I say, these were pretty inexpensive, (only $58 for 2 shipped), so can hardly go...

@noromance  Hey Brian, I have a couple of CBS-Hytron 5814A black plate tubes coming to use in the 12au7’s sockets of the Trumpet (looks like they might arrive tomorrow). Ever heard these tubes? I think these are from the 50’s with red lettering. ...
