Will increasing speaker cable AWG make a difference in sound quality?
You have to remember that not only speakers but to a lesser extent cables exhibit impedance, and together they form a impedance circuit.     To lessen that effect use thicker/lower gauge wire.
room size question.
You don't want room dimensions that cause standing waves/resonance. For example a 12x12x12' room would have a fundamental resonance of whatwever that frequency would be. Best to have a where the dimensions are not the same. Knock down a few walls,...
Why does pulling out main speakers from wall improve sound?
I assume that because bass spreads out in all directions - 360 degrees. Being too close to walls increases the bass as well as muddying the sound.
which is a better speaker
JBL have a well earned reputation for punchy sound and with the right equipment and setting can make music come alive like no others, IMO. The 120ti have top notch coned speakers. Sorry, don't know much about Pioneer.
Can a Amp be "timeless" and compete with todays amps?
My old Phase Linear 400B amp is almost 50 yo. I doubt that I could tell the difference between it and my newer amps in a blind AB test. Maybe others could, but as others here have said, amps haven't changed much over the years. Transistors and res...
Will I benefit from a subwoofer with 20Hz speakers?
@bishop148 The point is not more bass! The point is to get the bass right. If the bass is deficient, the ear will perceive the system as being tilted to the highs; if there is too much bass the ear will perceive the system as being muffled in...
Will I benefit from a subwoofer with 20Hz speakers?
IMHO don't waste your money. There is very little musical content in that octave 20-40Hz and in my experience having too much bass becomes annoying after a while.
Speakers: Anything really new under the sun?
There was some talk of plasma speakers, haven't heard anything since. The obvious advantage is almost no mass, hence no mechanical resonance and instantaneous response. Now that would be a breakthrough in design.
Class A or Class D solid-state amplifiers (modern designs)
I think most AB amps operate in class A mode up to roughly 1/10th of their full power output.  Which is to say 10dB less than peak output. So for most listening you hear only class A, and save money on your power bill.
Magnepan and Bob Carver Raven amps
I apologize for being off topic.  But how old is Bob Carver? He seems to have been around forever.
Does carpet deaden the sound too much?
I've heard that an egg shaped room has perfect acoustics. Mind you won't be able to walk around, but you will have great sound.
The Best Preamp is no Preamp?
I have an old Phase Linear 400 power amp. I can and have ran that directly from my CD player to my amp bypassing the pre-amp. Of course having volume controls on your power amp is a must. A pre-amp gives tone controls and a master on/off switch,...
Sound
Yes, it is mostly about ego gratification and that makes it all worthwhile!

If the privately owned Fed can generate trillions out of nothing and every dollar created as an IOU. All to be repaid by following generations, why pay taxes?
How much of High End Audio is Horn Speakers?
Horn speakers have small diaphragms, working in a powerful magnetic field and acoustically loaded, which producers high efficiency and low distortion. Downside is that the waveguide creates coloration.  My JBL 1400's are the least colored of any...
