Solid state; when would you use tubes? Interested to hear how the Halcros work out - why do the Aussies make such good stuff? You know btw, it does seem a common misconception the Mutlistrada is an offroad bike... it's not. It think it means more town and country. Not town and mudpile. ...
How good is the phono stage on a Plinius 8200MK 2? A tube stage somewhere would probably musical-ify that a bit. Plinus is a natural sounding peice of equipment, but you could run something out and back into it to great effect.
How much does your system retail for? It's not sarcasm to point out that a $60,000 system can sound like a sony boombox in a bad room with crappy electrics. And I've seen some of the "All out assaults" on 'gon. A $5,000 system in a good room can beat that $60,000 system every time if ...
Solid state; when would you use tubes? This is one of those things I have wondered - power in the chassis, and shielding should be enough... or is it? Who has a Bryston, Levinson or Classe? Any thoughts? I have heard a Levinson integrated, and even the Arcam FMJ integrated, which I lik...
Solid state; when would you use tubes? Hey Jax2 - you riding a Multistrada? Or a GS? I'm thinking about buying the Multi. Can anyone tell me if they've had any luck adding tubes into a hi-end integrated setup. Where in the foodchain did they go?
Solid state; when would you use tubes? I am looking for a more holistic answer, and less a solid state manifesto.
No Audiophiles in Hollywood 'Nother "House" one - the apartment the good doktor lives in has a Joule Electra of some variety on a shelf. Definitely *the* high-end show - is there a showroom down the street on Pico Blvd. or something they raid?
Favorite Tube Speaker Match Thanks man, I couldn't have said it better myself. Ceramic, kevlar and carbon fiber (all useful cone materials) are amazing, but I sometimes wonder about production methods and companies using what's cheapest instead of what's best, although unifo...
High End Integrated Choices I have heard them with a pair of Revel's M20s which a lot of people think are more difficult to drive than the 805's. But again, you know, you'd have to see if it suits you. But I would bet yes.
Favorite Tube Speaker Match I can always tell a difference in magnets, but I have never done a "pull the speaker out of the system, plug in a different one with different magnets" test.
300b, x45, 211, etc. Interesting no one brought Gohzirah or the PX25. Two tubes I have not been lucky enough to hear.If I were giving advice, which I don't, I would advise someone interested in tubes to find a really high quality integrated like a Manley Stingray feat...
High End Integrated Choices You will have zero problem driving 805's with the Mac. If you ever have any doubts about amp to speaker, look at the tranformer. If it's heavy, it will work. If it's not, it won't. Usually it's multiply by 3 to compare tube watts and solid state, ...
differences between tube and solid state designs I know what you mean about high end... it took me a while to see how tubes also, to my mind, handle the low end better. The hard clipping of solid state can really take you out of the music, the movie, whatever. Soft clipping, and a certain "truen...
differences between tube and solid state designs Any time you have a vacuum, you have a weak link. I think tubes are inherently better to listen to, and replacing every few years and a slightly higher noise floor is a small price to pay for dynamic realism. Considering how noisey the world is th...
300b, x45, 211, etc. About Klipsch - once the man, always the man. He and Bob Carver pretty much to my mind are two of the great contrarians of the audiophile world.I hesistated to bring up the Rocket, but it is a cool design, and with the single-ended-like output (th... |
