Can anyone tell me what happened?
In all seriousness though, with a couple o' minute to think... Is it possible that the overall voltage is much lower in your Anthem, and the Cary much higher... and in an attempt to equalize, your Anthem started cycling up with the Cary's unreleas...
Is there any way to get into tubes for super cheap
Pathos or AES also very reasonable, and Wright Sound. Even audio experience. AES should give you a triode sound, where as Jolida's are class A/B minimax in their more reasonable incarnations.
Getting SET
You should probably check out this thread also. Lots of good SET info:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?aamps&1115470733&read&keyw&zz2a3
Can anyone tell me what happened?
I had this same experience with a NAD - a cat had peed on plug strip. Cat fine, amp not. Thanks to the cat, I now have tubes.
Tubed Preamp for a Mark Levinson 27.5
That was supposed to say Manley Neo classic in front of that 300 tube part up there.
Why High Plate Voltage in 2A3 AMP?
The reason you see 300B preamps and not 2A3 preamps, is that low voltage gain is considered optimum for a good preamp...?
Opinions on Graaf Amps
You might also want to check out Mastersound, which I have been peased with, just to stick with the Italian theme. They make excellent amps.
Tubed Preamp for a Mark Levinson 27.5
If you like the euphony of the 300b tube. What about a BAT or a Lamm if you want to preserve the dark sound?
What is the best high efficient monitors under 1K?
Tannoy's would be good with the Manley.
Is this normal?
You could blow your tubes with that kind of capacitance. The electricity is not able to get out of the tube essentially because it can't overcome the reach of the wire effectively. It's only a matter of time.
A worse feeling than burning out your amp?
I used to run a line from my G4 to an Audio Experience. Upgraded the cable - not far; audio research and grado extension. A couple of days go by, I turn off my Marantz Mono's I have at the time, go to unplug the extension and I get ELECTROCUTED. T...
PS Audio vs. Cary
I have a Rocket which I really like. I agree Arcam is great, but it's solid state - Cary makes a CD/DAC that is twice the price and probably worth it if you aren't a vinyl guy, plus it's got 12AX7's and capacitors on the output. But you could get ...
nice turntable that plays 78s
Delrin platter and bearing assembly, speed controller from 16 to 80 - the works. Looks like a fairly audiophile affair. Shellac rules.
Blue Note Jazz Recordings
I agree the new cd's are a little - I don't know that I would say lean, but dry or something... However when they went from mono to stereo many of the early stereo pressings and mixes were not superior to the mono's, and people said the same thing...
Blue Note Jazz Recordings
A lot of these recordings have something going for them in that many of the ninyl editions have edits on them for longer songs, plus extra versions. Even the 20-bit copy of Mingus Ah Um I have is worth owning just for the 17(?) extra minutes.
