Cartridge weight.
If I understand your question correctly, the Micro-Acoustics 3002/II is probably Lightweight Champion of the world, at 2.9g total weight including stylus.
Koetsu Rosewood long body rebuild
Reviving an old thread. I'm deciding whether to rebuild my own Rosewood. I downloaded these photos but the memory stick no longer works. They're not on the Stereophile link any more either — and no apparent way to contact Vencel, the OP.Did any of...
Dynavector cartridges, old and new
I have a 23 Ruby Karat and the short cantilever has many obvious advantages, which we've covered in this thread. It does have one disadvantage — if there's any warp in the record, the change in SRA as the cartridge moves up and down will be greate...
Outer ring - who uses and what are your findings
Best way to flatten records is an SME style of system. Screw on clamp with a specially shipped bottom and a washer under the record.25 or so years ago I had an Ariston TT, the "minimalist" round one (RD40?) which used that method. Very effective....
Fun Analog Upgrade Challenge
Interesting challenge but I won't play because don't accept the rules of your game — "But you can NOT divide up the 10K among components - you have to choose ONE to put all the money on."It may be of academic interest, but if we were talking about...
Grado Labratory Wood Tonearm? 3 questions: Keep it? Sell It? Burn it?
One thing for sure, it won't be overly susceptible to spurious resonances. While there are many features on modern tonearms, maybe its utter simplicity is a virtue, and the fact you're tracking at the same 1.5g as any other arm is what counts. I'd...
How much isopropanol is effective but safe for viny?
Not all surface debris is light fluffy dust — some is gritty and abrasive. Wiping "with a good amount of pressure" worries me, it might grind that stuff in, drag it around, and premanently scar the vinyl. Have you encountered that, Invictus?
Dynavector cartridges, old and new
"What I reject, is the notion that any cartridge that is no longer made, made with this or that exotic material in the cantilever, or has some unusual property or structure (magnet, coil, stylus shape) is therefore to be sought and probably sounds...
How much isopropanol is effective but safe for viny?
The label on my 91% Isopropyl says the other 9% is distilled water. Since we’re all diluting our various alcohol formulations with distilled water anyway, why does 9% already added make Isopropyl unsuitable? Does it contain other impurities? Is th...
Tonearm comparison, Rega vs Zeta, anyone?
The Syrinx LE1 was the bottom of the Syrinx line, their offering in the "budget" arena, and unlike Rega they weren't geared up to mass-produce, crucial in that low-margin market. Quality control was all over the place.I have and still use the bett...
Tonearm comparison, Rega vs Zeta, anyone?
I forgot to mention, the RB300 I had was mounted on an Oracle — not the Delphi but the Alexandria, a step down but using exactly the same design principles (suspension, platter/bearing/motor, etc). All the other arms I mentioned above were mounted...
Tonearm comparison, Rega vs Zeta, anyone?
I also had the RB300, and very high hopes. I was very disappointed. No cartridge, from high-compliance MM to LOMC, sounded nearly as good on the Rega as they did on other arms. Everyone conceded the wiring in the Rega was lousy, so I rewired with ...
Jelco SA-750D or Rega RB250
I don't have the Victor 7045 Chakster recommends, so can't comment on its other characteristics — but I want one, because it has a unique feature, rarely mentioned. It accepts the ubiquitous SME-type headshells (also called "universal"), but the c...
Dynavector cartridges, old and new
Andy Kim might know more; he retips cartridges, based in Seattle. I called him about a Koetsu Rosewood and Accuphase AC2. He was courteous and businesslike, but when I mentioned my 23R Karat, his entire tone changed — “Wow, you have a 23 Ruby? Tha...
SAT 30K+$$ TONEARM: W O R T H T O H A V E I T ?
Anyone can hear "the SAT sound" on their own turntable, if the tonearm is 9". Just realign your cartridge to the SAT null-points, and add 3° to your offset angle. If the SAT is mechanically superior, as it claims, that will affect the results a bi...
