Bose 901 Series ii
The first step is to figure out what you like rather than reacting to what someone else likes.  In this thread, for example, someone suggested DCM Time Windows.  A speaker more unlike Bose 901s would be hard to find.  You might hate them.  Find ou...
Best Record You Have Ever heard
I am a jazz guy so for me the best of the best is going to be jazz, and as anyone who knows anything about jazz will concede, the first and foremost jazz performer of all time was Louis Armstrong.  The rarest of his early recordings is "Cake Walki...
Last stylus preservative...anyone still use it?
I only use Stylast before every side of every record played and have been doing this since the mid-1980s.  Stylii last about 25OO hours.  Ortofon warns against this practice, which I have steadfastly ignored.  I also use LAST record preservative, ...
thinking of switching from conrad johnson......
There is some silly stuff posted in this thread.  While there is nothing wrong with wanting new kit for whatever reason, to claim some sonic benefit over top level electronics that is up to spec from cj is nonsense.  No one could hear the differen...
Warm-up time.
Contrary to some of what has been said, tube electronics warm up relatively quickly.  CJ and AR both suggest about 30 minutes.  SS stuff can take hours.  The advice to leave SS stuff on all the time, especially if it is not Class A, makes a whole ...
Diana Krall - New Vinyl - Good sound - Poor Vinyl
I have to ditto you.  My copy is on 3 sides, 2 discs, and sounds very good with the bass being as good as any in my experience.  The music is perhaps the best Krall has ever recorded.  Highest recommendation.
Bad vinyl
There is a definite difference in our perception for whatever reason. What you refer to as the golden days, I remember as the bad old days. I am 69 years old and started listening to my grandmother’s extensive jazz record collection of 78s when I ...
New Technics SL 1200 GAE
As both a WIS (I favor traditional Rolex and Omega designs) and a GAE owner I think your observations are apt.  In both cases the concept and cliche that form follows function is total.
The all conquering Zerostat
Here is a link to their website.  http://www.furutech.com/2016/02/12/12469/This is a much, much more effective static eliminator than the Zerostat.  Faster, thorough, easier to use.  Worth the money.
Which is REALLY the best Conrad Johnson Preamp
i love my ET5 and never heard any cj anything that didn't sound great to me.
Conrad Johnson Classic Sixty
There is some serious misinformation in the mix in this thread.  What kind of amps do many, many bass guitarists use?  Tube amps?  Really?  Gee do you suppose they know something about the sound they want?
phase linear amplifiers
This thread has no merit.
Bad vinyl
I rarely have found a record, new or used that was unacceptable to me.  Perhaps this is related to our expectations?  I do not expect perfection.  Warps?  They are axiomatic.  The question for me is not:  Is the record warped?  Rather, the questio...
The all conquering Zerostat
Like you I have a litany of stuff going back decades covered by an original Zerostat bought for $29.99 in about 1970, which is still going strong.  It is white.  I also have a newer blue one in another house that cost about $79.99.  But both are r...
Audiophiles are not alone
I have no axe to grind in this discussion one way or the other and made my principle point in the opening post.  But I must take exception to the contention that the results of the comparison do not provide useful insight.  Let me summarize my und...
