When is it time to consider adding a SUT?
Raul,Answering my questions with your own questions is a polemic exercise.  If we are to have a meaningful conversation this is not the way to start.  I provided a frame of reference that offers a clear starting point.  Please answer my questions.
Looking for a Phono pre around 1K
In that price range I would consider the following brands:  Graham Slee, Creek, Rothwell, Lehmann, Pro-Ject.
When is it time to consider adding a SUT?
rauliruegas,Please provide facts to back up your claims.  What phono stage are you referring to?  What tube phono stages have you compared it with?  What is your criteria for deciding what phono stage "outperforms" others?  Try and stick to facts....
2nd pivot for VPI 3D
It is easier to visualize what is happening when you have the kit in your hands and no matter how articulate our words are, they fall short.  I will try.  Visualize a tripod, that is a platform with three feet.  The first foot is the unipivot of t...
When is it time to consider adding a SUT?
There is only one problem with your analysis: "the bipolar full SS phono stage" that sounds better than even a mid-level tube phono stage is unobtainium.  Nice try though.
2nd pivot for VPI 3D
It is easy to back the second pivot screw out just enough to lift it off of the glide plate.  Doing so is identical to removing the kit.  This makes it very easy to compare the effect with and without the second pivot.  The instructions suggest st...

I agree with taxmandme, my phone stage is a Conrad Johnson TEA2MAX, which has 55 db of gain.  This is a very high quality tube phono stage.  Although it can handle a range of cartridges from 0.3 mV to 5.0 mV, for any of my low output MC cartridges...
2nd pivot for VPI 3D
That is a good point. My cartridge upon which these comments are made was an Ortofon 2M Mono SE, which is based on the 2M Black.  Lateral compliance is 22 micro meters/mN.  The arm is a metal VPI JMW 10, Series 3.  I have another kit on order for ...
2nd pivot for VPI 3D
It took 15 minutes to install, but about 3 hours of playing with it, essentially to satisfy myself that it was optimized.  I am amazed at the difference this simple modification makes.  I am not one to exaggerate, but here I go.  The bass is bette...
Cartridge for Technics SL-1200GAE
All of the following cartridges sound just fine on my GAE: Ortofon: Per Windfeld, Cadenza Black, 2M Black, 2M Mono SE; Audio Technica: AT150ANV, AT 33 Mono ANV; Stanton 881.  The arm is a medium mass arm, very similar the MK2 arm it replaced, ~9 g...
New Technics SL 1200 GAE
The Zupreme headshell from LP Gear has azimuth adjustment and happens to sound very good compared to other headshells I have tried on the GAE.  VTA can be adjusted on the fly on the GAE.  Setup is extremely fast, easy, and repeatable too. This is ...
New Technics SL 1200 GAE
Looking over this thread it would appear that you and I are the only owners of GAEs and that we are in complete agreement, especially about the arm.  Taken as a whole, the new SL1200 GAE (and G) is a home run that can stand comparison with any oth...
New Technics SL 1200 GAE
This is a second attempt to respond and I apologize in advance if 2 messages appear that are redundant.  I purchased an SL1200GAE last summer.  It sits right next to a VPI Prime.  The Prime has been modified as follows:  Eagle PSU with Roadrunner ...
VPI Classic Platter- Naked or better with a mat?
I have a Prime and a static issue.  Jake's deer hide mat available from Amazon and on Ebay that Stringreen recommended helps quite a bit to drain static with the suede side up.
VPI Record Cleaning - Does Bidirectional cleaning really make a difference?
inna,I have a MoFi brush and two Disc Doctor brushes and they are essentially identical. As for your concern about scrubbing the record with these brushes causing damage is concerned, you seem to be thinking that the bristles of the brush actually...
