SL1200GAE New Tonearm
I agree that the stock arm on the GAE is outstanding.  I have not compared it with a Triplanar, but have an SME on another TT, and a VPI 3D w/dual pivot on another and compared to them it is easier to set up and sounds as good as or better than th...
Looking for the best moving coil cart that is around $5K used
The above post written by itsjustme is spot on.  I have a real world example that illustrates his point.  The turntable involved in this anecdote is a VPI Prime and when I first bought it, I was having trouble dialing it in.  Part of the problem w...
From Cadenza Black to A95...
Great review, I read with particular interest because of my somewhat similar experience.  I have a Prime:  Periphery ring, Eagle/Roadrunner, 2 arms, Dual pivot kits, Counter Intuitive, triple belts.  I also have a Cadenza Black and also wasn't loo...
Is a SUT needed?
Raul, the single most important aspect of any evaluation of audio equipment in the end must be how the music sounds.  And you consistently neglect to address in your discussions the element of taste.  It is OK to have your preferences, I fully res...
Is a SUT needed?
There is no substitute for trying one or more in your own system to hear the effect.  Bob of bobsdevices.com sent one of his SKY10 SUTs to me and Wow!  Huge improvement.  My phono stage is cj TEA2MAX, 55 db, using an Ortofon Winfeld with 0.2mV out...
Which tubes do I change??
Dear @markj41: All. Put on sale your Jolida and buy a SS preamp. Tubes are not for audio home system MUSIC reproduction no matter what. Period. Sop to degrade your digital recordings.Regards and enjoy the MUSIC NOT DISTORTIONS,R. There is only...
Technics 1200 GAE, 1200GR or 1200G?
I would like to corroborate jtsnead's comments concerning the VPI 3D arm as being difficult to set up.  It gets easier with practice and the dual pivot and the Counter Intuitive help quite a bit, but it requires patience and time to properly set u...
Technics 1200 GAE, 1200GR or 1200G?
Response to Sid 1, as TooBlue explained either 2 belts or 3 belts can be fitted to the Prime once an HRX pulley is fitted.  Very easy to do.  I can't hear much difference 2 belts or 3, either improves the sound of the Prime. Tighter, better defini...
Which tubes do I change??
I'd change them all and be done with it.  That is the approach I take with my cj amp, preamp, and phono stage.  The whole magillah all at once.  Saves a lot of worry.  It's only money.
Looking for the best moving coil cart that is around $5K used
Maybe I missed it, but did the Ortofon Winfeld Ti get mentioned?  That is the one I would spend my $5K on without a second thought.  In fact it is the one I will spend my $5K on when my current Per Winfeld is up for renewal. I love the sound of th...
Technics 1200 GAE, 1200GR or 1200G?
i have a GAE and a VPI Prime modded as follows:  Eagle and Roadrunner, 3 belts, periphery ring, 2 arms (metal and 3D both with dual point kit).  The two tables sound different, but I would not say one is better than the other.  Without the mods th...
New Technics SL1200G turntable
I have owned my GAE version of this turntable for going on 2 years now.  The G and the GAE are functionally the same for all practical purposes, the GAE was a limited edition version sold in very limited quantities at introduction that is cosmetic...
Technics 1200g vs Rega rp8, VPI aries, avenger, Basis 2000, Linn LP12 etc. Can it compete?
There are not many turntables that compete with the G in speed accuracy.  In fairness, unless you are comparing two TTs with one being super accurate and the other off a tiny bit, this factor is really not very important for all practical purposes...
Technics 1200g vs Rega rp8, VPI aries, avenger, Basis 2000, Linn LP12 etc. Can it compete?
This keeps coming up doesn't it?  I own a Prime with Road Runner and Eagle (speed control), Periphery Ring, triple belts, both a 3D and a metal arm, Stillpoints LP1 (which I use on both TTs) and it is a killer turntable.  Right next to it sits my ...
HELP PLEASE - VPI Classic Signature 3D Arm or Dr. Feickert Woodpecker Jelco Arm
I would go with the VPI.  It is quieter than the Garrard, the 3D arm tracks better than the Ortofon, not sure why anyone would think otherwise.  The Feickert is good too, but the VPI is absolutely Class A. Don't take my word for it, look it up.
