Do powercords make a difference in sound?
Wow lissnr, you read a lot into my comments. I was just having a little fun with the language that was in the original post.I agree, power cords can make a difference, often a substantial one, and sometimes more so than interconnects or speaker ca...
Do powercords make a difference in sound?
OK can't resist:Do powercords make a difference in sound? Yes; no powercord, no sound.Do they make a difference by upgrading stock power cords in amps, ect versus aftermarket power cords? Don't know, never had a powercord in an amplifier. If so, ca...
Long USB cable
To Br3098's point, I agree with avoiding "regular" copper wire UBS cables that are more than 3.5m. A longer copper cable would not be within the USB spec and would likely not give you a signal or cause dropouts. But if you use something like the O...
Long USB cable
I use a 30 meter USB cable from Opticis. They make shorter lengths too. The cable converts USB to fiber optic and then back to USB. Works like a charm. I also use an Opticis 30 meter fiber optic HDMI cable.
The Best Audiophile Earphones headphones and Amp
If you are still looking at options and not looking at electrostats, I recommend the Ray Samuels Audio B-52 amp with the Sony MDR-R10 headphones. The R10s are arguable the best non-stat phones that were made, but they're only available now on the ...
best powercord for atma-sphere amps MA 1
I agree with TVAD and recommend looking upstream from the amp and preamp for the problem. At first, I thought the MA1s were weak in the bass too, until we identified the real problem as my phono cartridge. Changed cartridges and the bass was great...
Spectral preamps
Thank you all for the helpful advice. Based on what I've read, Spectral looks like a good option for a number of reasons. I will try to listen to their gear at a dealer. It's good to know that I can start with a preamp and go from there; I'm consi...
Playback Designs vs. Berkeley
As the original poster, just FYI, I bought the PD DAC last year. Couldn't be happier.Jonathan, that's very cool news about DSDx2 via USB. I've been tinkering in the computer audiophile world for a few years now, and for me that capability has been...
James Louspeakers
Are you looking for main stereo speakers? Or others? I use their in-walls for side and rear surrounds, and one of their on-walls for a center channel. After listening to a lot of in-walls, these are the best I've heard. Great people to deal with; ...
Amplification for Wilson Watt Puppy 7s or 8s
Lubes, I've heard the WPs with T+A amps on a number of occasions in a dealer system. IMHO, the T+A amp was performing at a lower level compared to BAT or Halcro amps in the same system. Not sure which model it was, but the T+A amp was holding the ...
A home for my cans
I haven't heard the other pre/headamp combos mentioned above, but I can recommend the Ray Samuels B-52 without hesitation. It can be used with balanced or unbalanced cans. He also offers some other models at different price points. If you're ever ...
Leben integrated amps and Merlin VSM
I recommend listening to a Leben before you buy -- I would guess that they will sound quite different. I used to own a Leben CS-300x and have had OTL amps in my system at the same time. The Leben sound is quite a bit different than the OTL sound (...
Ortofon MC A90 cartridge
Mike, thanks for sharing your insights. I think Steve used a term like "jump factor" or something like that to describe the Reed as well. Looking forward to hearing about your further comparisons. I've been bowled over by the garrard/tri/a90 combo...
Ortofon MC A90 cartridge
The posts above summed it up well. This cartridge's clarity is amazing.Hi MikeL - I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the A90/Reed combo. Steve has said good things about it, and I'm taking the leap on a Reed 2P. I'd be curious to hear your impre...
