Upgrade ARC Ref 5 to Ref 5 SE, which path?
I own an upgraded Ref 5 SE. Bought it as a Ref 5 for about $7200. ARC did the SE upgrade for $2500. So my "all in" cost is $9700. From a quality or resale perspective, I am indifferent that my Ref 5 SE was factory upgraded. In a way, I'm happier w...

Audio Research CL-30 Bias Drift
Btw, I obviously don't know where Ampman lives. If he is located in the Philly/New York/Delaware area, I have a great ARC authorized tech who makes house calls and is very reasonable. He works closely with Chris Ossana back at the factory. If Ampm...
Audio Research CL-30 Bias Drift
Sorry if this heretical, but is there any wisdom is sending the amp to an authorized ARC service tech. Perhaps even back to the factory. The CL-30 is a bit long in the tooth. The factory or an experienced ARC tech could replace worn parts and get ...
The owner of Grant Fidelity is battling cancer
I hate cancer! Having lost a wife to ovarian cancer 10 years ago, I am totally empathic to what Mr. Grant, his family and close friends are feeling. I pray HaShem grants peace and healing to all who are affected by this tragedy.Bruce

Thanks Roy. For those of us time and phase dummies who have already invested in expensive gear, and who are confounded by the difficulties associated with meaningfully auditioning speakers, what are your thoughts about using the DEQX unit to unscr...
New VPI 3D Arm
Hiendmuse ... I had the same problem when I installed the Classic 3 tone arm base. VPI sent me a medium sized azimuth ring which clears the VTA tower perfectly. These are the kinds of annoying little problems that VPI needs to direct some attentio...

Ok,let's take inventory of what we know and what we surmise about romex. I can't verify these stats, but let's start with resistance. Based on this link: http://forums.qrz.com/showthread.php?38733-Resistivity-of-Romex-(NM)-WireSomeone posted the f...

Pc123v .... cool your jets until I finish my romex experiment. Pure copper ... ultra pure ... hyper pure. Dielectric properties of insulation. Reminds me of the Space Balls movie when the baddies went to "Ludicrous Speed." Voodoo. Snake oil. Bull ...
Kimber 8TC beater?
Ok ... I am going to do an experiment and will report back results. I am going to buy some off the shelf 12 gauge romex and make up a paid of speaker cables. I'll even make a set of jumpers out of the scrap wire. As I said, I currently use Kimber ...
currently own a vpi scout, looking to upgrade
Great comments above. I second Stan's (Stringreen) comment about a cartridge upgrade. I used to own the Delos ... it's a "Tony The Tiger" great cartridge. But I moved up to the Kleos, its bigger brother. IMO, the Kleos is even better. I also think...

As a native Philadelphian, the Jersey shore is like a suburb to me and many other fellow Philadelphians. Spent many a summer in AC when I was a kid.I'm sure that general economic conditions and perhaps social mores may have much to do with AC's wo...

Al's last post is what I needed to take the next step. A call into DEQX is in order. For some reason, my gut tells me I might get more bang for the buck going in this direction than by dropping a wad of cash into expensive speakers. I'll be back.A...

Ok ... I have a serious question. Was thinking about this after my last post. Why wouldn't heavy gauge romex (say 10 or 12 gauge), which is solid copper I believe, make a good speaker cable. Not trying to be simple. It is a sincere question. Bruce
