Audio Research GS150 Musings
Jasper, send a "Help" e-mail to A'gon staff. I had a similar problem once before and they fixed it right away.

Jasper ... why are you using the 16 ohm taps? What type of speakers are you driving?
Audio Research GS150 Musings
Pulled the HI FI News review and clipped some pertinent comments:"The GS duo not only looks much betterit also sounds way better than the ARC REF 5E/150 combination with **KT120 valves installed** (whichare congested and closed-in bycomparison). T...

Me thinks you are right on David.
New KT150 tubes?
Joeinid .... the Ref 75 uses only 2 pairs of KT-150s. The Ref 150 2 quads. The Ref 250, I think 3 pairs per channel. My gut tells me that there is NO issue, but I am not a techie and I will not give advice or do something that is crosswise to ARC....

Way too early to come to judgment .... 600 hours is the break-in period. I am interested in learning how the GS-150's innards differ from the Ref 150.
ARC Quality Issues Ref75 Ref5SE Ref10
Knghifi ... agree too. Trying to figure out what the story is with the new GS-150 amp. On paper, except for using KT-150s, it specs identically to the Ref 150. Check out the ARC web site. Oh ... it also has a new skin.Anyone have any idea what els...

Ralph ... my bad. Thanks for the name correction.
New KT150 tubes?
FYI: ARC owners. I spoke with Chris Ossana from ARC on Monday about an issue involving the white Teflon caps in my Ref 5 SE and Ref 150. During the course of the call, I asked Chris about the KT-150s ... again. Chris continues to tow the company l...

Thanks Ralph .... sure wish ARC would get where you are. Pushing a button or replacing a fuse makes a lot more sense to me than calling my local ARC tech. I am dubious that if ARC did blind testing on a "with and without" basis, that Bill Gehl, AR...

Tsushima1 ... your point is beyond my technical pay grade. Maybe Gary (Hifigeek1), Al (Almarg) or Ralph (Atmasphere) can explain why ARC uses bias resisters that handle only the rated wattage so chosen. Again, from a non-techie perspective, I surm...
Would vinyl even be invented today?
Zd542 .... maybe using the phrase "ironically cool" does not reflect the motivation of many. In my case, I bought a 1st generation VPI Classic 1 and DIY "modded" it to near Classic 3 performance. Specifically, I switched out the tonearm/wand assem...
Would vinyl even be invented today?
Ok ... not a technical response, but how do you factor in the album cover pics on old vinyl. I have a bunch of Linda Ronstadt LPs from the 70s and I still have a crush on her ... from the old days. I also have a CD re-issue of one of her old LPs ....

Jasper ... my local ARC just left my house. My Ref 150 sounds great!!! Two bias resisters on the same tube blew. No surprise really. The tubes have almost 2000 hours of use on them and they are ready for a replacement. Maybe KT-150s if this stupid...
New KT150 tubes?
Jasper .... I am perplexed by the hype surrounding the GS-150. On paper, the GS-150 specs identically to the Ref 150, except for the KT-150s and possibly a different output tranny. I am sufficiently familiar with ARC's product line to have the sta...
