Thorens Turntable Speed Indicator Accessory
Great!! So . . . , after you learn that your TT speed is off, what do you do next, especially if it's belt driven??

No comments on the cartridges. But I used to own the same Thorens. Check Vinyl Engine web site. There is a page that calculates tonearm/cartridge resonance. There are also pages that provide information about tone arm effective mass and cartridge ...
Relate sensitivity/impedance to speaker efficiency
Thanks Al and Atmasphere: I experimented with the 4 Ohm taps. Although I can not offer a technical explanation, I can only say that my speakers sounded terrible across the board when played off the 4 Ohm taps: way less efficient, rolled off treble...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Nothing! My kids threw me out of the basement.
Be-718 owners, what sub are you using?
Give some thought to the Paradigm line-up. Their higher end subs can be programmed to integrate bass response to match your speakers and the room envirnment. These subs use a device called the PBK (perfect bass kit) and utilize your computer to ru...
Relate sensitivity/impedance to speaker efficiency
Atmasphere: I use an ARC VS 115 tube amp in my rig. Its rated output is about 115 watts driven into an 8 ohm load. My speakers are nominally rated at 8 ohms, but as mentioned above, their impedance curve drops in the lower frequencies and their im...
Preamp suggestions for Thiel 3.6 & Bryston 4B-sst
Hi Dbdog: I own all ARC gear (pre, phon, CD and amp) and love it!! I've tried several ARC pre-amps (SP-9, SP-16, SP-17 and Ref-3) and amps (VS 110 and VS 115). Don't know much about Bryston. Let me put something out there for you to think about. I...
Inner Tracks Sound Raspy
Davide256, thank you very much. BTW, I checked Vinyl Engine for cartridge alignment tools. They have some very helpful and inexpensive tools available there, even some custom set ups for Thorens TTs. Thanks also for the advice on the TT clamp vs t...
Inner Tracks Sound Raspy
Thanks Davide256: Your advice is helpful for all A'gon members who own turntables. As far as VTA is concerned, based on the posts above, I will need to purchase a protractor. Where's the best place to get one??Regarding alignment, I take your poin...
Inner Tracks Sound Raspy
David256 & Syntax: Thanks for the advice. I tried increasing stylus weight by .25 gm. That helped a bit. But I think Syntax may be right -- time to stop nursing the Thorens along and get a new TT and arm.
Inner Tracks Sound Raspy
Thanks Macd. When I called Grado, they said that the Sonata likes a 2 degree VTA, north of 180 degrees - flat. That is, the cantilever/stylus should "rake" a little bit. I'll need a protractor and allen wrenth. I'll report back after I checked VTA...
Inner Tracks Sound Raspy
Audiofeil and Macd: As I mentioned, the tonearm is the original stock TP16, which came with the TT. Audiofeil, when you suggest that there might be an "alignment problem," what are you referring to? The cartridge, azimuth, overhang??Thanks for the...
Inner Tracks Sound Raspy
Thanks Misstl. I'll experiment with the tracking force. If centrifugal force increases as the spiral tightens, is it better to adjust tracking with a bias towards more or less force. I assume that the readings on the gauge are just estimates anywa...
Buy tubes from Audio Research or not
Hifigeek, just an FYI re your last post. I called ARC and spoke with a tech there. He did NOT disagree with the advice in your last post. However, he did comment that if the output tube and its "slave" (i.e., VS 115) biases within spec, and the am...
Audio Research VS 115 bias Adjustments
Hifigeek, happy to oblige!
