For Old Timers who experienced the "Golden Age" of Audio of the 60s and 70s.
@almarg,  Al, ...  how much stock do you place on some of the high-tech materials used in better speakers such as neodymium magnets, lightweight and stiff cone materials (e.g., beryllium domes, graphene, and so forth).  I assume that the crossover...
For Old Timers who experienced the "Golden Age" of Audio of the 60s and 70s.
Yup, I was there in the late 60s and early 70s during my late teen and early 20s years.  For members who hail from the Philly area, there was Music and Sound Limited (M&S) located in the Jenkintown and later the Willow Grove areas.  Remember M...
Audio Forums, On-line Store Fronts, and the Art-of-Deception
@knghifi -- I think we are talking past each other.  I agree with you that Audiogon cannot be the truth or full disclosure police.  That said, as I mentioned above, in the past, many reputable members who happened to be dealers or manufacturers of...
Audio Forums, On-line Store Fronts, and the Art-of-Deception
@knghifi , you just posted:That's fine and dandy but do you think Agon is going to waste time and Answer:  NO.  Hence, all we can do is hope that manufacturers and dealers will disclose their status for the sake of full disclosure and transparen...
Audio Forums, On-line Store Fronts, and the Art-of-Deception
Perhaps just wishful recollection, but I seem to remember that several years ago, either because of simple courtesy, custom and practice, or perhaps because of prior Audiogon rules, dealers and manufacturers disclosed their commercial interest.  F...
Solid state amp to replace my Audio Research Ref 150 amp
Shaq, I agree with Johnny R from Audioconnection.  I owned the Ref 150, dropped in KT-150s and noticed a big improvement and then had ARC do the SE upgrade and noticed another big jump in performance.  I know many members have made some fine recom...
Magico S1 Mk II - The First Review
Read the review.  Talk about pulling punches.Btw, Eric, I read your other thread about speaker voodoo and at some level agree.  I think there's a lot of speaker hype out there.  And unfortunately, given the cost of most high-end speakers, their co...
Why is an XA30.5 a bad match for Revel Ultima Salon II speakers?
@bombaywalla , you said I "should look for a time-coherent speaker. [My] quest for another speaker will end. Don’t waste [my] time with these wicked phase angle, crazy impedance curve speakers. They’ll leave [me] wanting for better sonics....FWIW....
Why is an XA30.5 a bad match for Revel Ultima Salon II speakers?
@bombaywalla , you wrote " [s]o, the DEQX is sidelined due your philosophy of minimizing the signal chain? nothing wrong with DEQX - just that you are a minimalist w.r.t. audio gear, right?"  Yes, ... correct.  The DEQX solves many problems. That...
Why is an XA30.5 a bad match for Revel Ultima Salon II speakers?
Thanks XTI16 and Bombaywalla.  Kinda' figured you would come out where you did.  It makes sense.  No Bombaywalla, ... the amp does not double down wattage at 4 ohms.  In fact, if you checked out some reviews of the Ref 150 (not SE), you will see t...
Why is an XA30.5 a bad match for Revel Ultima Salon II speakers?
Bombaywalla, How do you think my ARC Ref 150 SE tube amp would fare with the Ultima Salons? My amp has 4, 8 and 16 ohm output taps.  I surmise that the 4 ohm taps would work best with the Salons given its lowish impedance in the low frequencies.  ...
Power On Power Off
I recall that Kal at ARC gave me the same advice as jea48 just posted, ... wait 5 minutes.  Kal said the reason for the wait is to let the PS caps to discharge.  Having said that, my memory is fading and I suggest that if this is a real concern, c...
ARC Ref75 SE meter light flickering, ack
IMO, the correct course of action is to call to Kalvin Dahl at ARC.  Not sure what the problem is.  It  may be that Kal can send out a new part and a local ARC authorized tech can fix it.  The advantage of course is that it may save time.  Is the ...

Hi Al,Been away for a while.  Hee hee.  I like your response.  Ya know, some time ago, I offered to compare 10 or 12 gauge Romex for speaker wires instead of my Kimbers.  I got to put that project back into my bucket list of things I need to do an...
