Considering going Vinyl--Please talk me out of it
Oh come on, do it!I was in a similar spot about 3 years ago. I bought a Scout, upgraded to a Scoutmaster and am now close to pulling the trigger on a Raven AC. I didn't "need" to upgrade beyond the Scout but I'm loving the tweeking and buying new ...
Merlin Upgrade Experience
To be honest, there's no degredation in sound I can determine between spiked straight in or having the wooden disks there. It does minimize the impact on the floors but the spikes do sink partially in. A bit of a comprimise I suppose. What I'm real...
Merlin Upgrade Experience
Just some little wooden disks my wife found for me at a craft store. Definitely not "audiophile approved", but they also didn't cost me hundreds :-) , (more like 5 bucks). You have to be careful though or you'll crack them. They didn't really do an...
Merlin Upgrade Experience
I thought I'd just add my upgrade experience to the mix.About little more than a month ago I loaded my Merlin's, (VSM-MX's into the car), and my wife and I drove them down to Bobby's place about 3 hrs away, give or take another 45 minutes to get a...
Owners of Plinius 9200 using the internal phono st
When I had mine I compared it to my Dynavector P-75 and felt it was pretty comparable. The Dynavector had a bigger soundstage but to be honest, I think it was likely just down to the internal stage not being broken in. This was using a Dynavector ...
Has anyone added a second belt to their VPI Scout
Oh, I thought it was to allow fine adjustment of the speed. It's been a while since I've owned one. The Scoutmaster pulley is tapered for that purpose. I suppose it should work then. I've seen some other tables do that although I'm not sure what t...
Has anyone added a second belt to their VPI Scout
I haven't tried it but I don't think it would work, (at least not well). The motor spindle is tapered so if you're talking two belts and one motor I think that you'd have problems as the belt on the larger groove would be turning the platter faste...
Cartridge Suggestion for Scoutmaster / JMW-9 Sig.
I'm using an Ortofon Jubilee with my Scoutmaster JMW9 Sig right now. I like it very much.
Cartridge recommendations VPI Scoutmaster
Ghunter, any concerns on the compliance of the Koetsu with the JMW arm? I was curious about a Koetsu with my JMW9-Sig but was under the impression that the low compliance might be an isuue?
Stupidgood: Ars Sonum
Just to throw in my two cents. I've been running the Filarmonia with my VSM-MX's, (soon to get the 'e upgrade), for about a year and a half now and it's a brilliant match. It's a really special amp with the Merlin's. Buy one, forget about it and w...

I am enjoying my Ortofon Jubilee very much with my Scoutmaster. I would highly recommend it. Best of luck
What amp should be used with merlin vsm's?
Tab110s, I know what you mean about it being smaller than you thought. I don't know if I didn't realize it was a little smaller than average or simply forgot between ordering and receiving it. Anyway, after more than a year I can say it looks fine...
Upgrade from Scoutmaster?
Thanks for the response guys. While I'd love to follow your advice, that room in the photo is actually the corner of our living room and while my wife is understanding, I know that treatments are out of the question. One day I'd like a house with ...
Upgrade from Scoutmaster?
Do you think that the XX-2 is going to be substantially better, (if at all), than the Ortofon Jubilee? I've not heard the XX-2 so I have no basis for comparison. Thanks.
Upgrade from Scoutmaster?
Hah! Very clever. Let's just say that won't be the first "upgrade" I pursue but if I change my mind you'll be the first to know. ;-)
