Acoustics and chair
Here is a suggestion for those where the headrest is high enough that it actually supports your head. Drape a towel over the back of headrest and that should absorb those nasty reflections. Or have your great aunt knit a little doily for those tha...
wyred4sound dac hookup to receiver
I am not knowledgeable about your particular receiver. If it has a direct mode, then you should be able to use Plato's method. Most AVRs do have the direct mode in the set up option.
Newbie Question: Why is turntable volume so low?
I don't think anyone has mentioned this, but you don't necessarily need an outboard phono preamp. You could use a step up between the turntable and McIntosh preamp. This could be an active head unit or step up transformers. The cheapest path would...
Best Song Intro
"You're So Vain", Carly Simon. It is Klaus Voorman noodling around on his bass guitar.
The Best Compliment You've Gotten On Your Rig?
Most people when they see my setup, say "I bet those speakers play really loud!" That what most people equate to a good music set up. They don't get that reproducing the sound of the actual instruments is my goal.I do have one audio savvy friend w...
Help needed to recover costs please
I am sorry to hear about your problem. I may be able to point you in the direction of some help. Several years ago I had a problem with a seller on this site. After being unable to resolve it, I submitted a complaint IC3, an Internet Crime Complai...
What is your favorite 1 hit wonder from the 70's?
"Dancing in the Moonlight" by King Harvest. It is just such a slick POP song! For clarity, Bands mentioned above that are not one hit:Mott the Hoople, Argent, Thin Lizzy, Black Oak Arkansas, T-Rex. Technically, Billy Thorpe had another hit, "In My...
Transmission Line Bass
I have Fried Studio 7's. I love the transmission line bass. It just sounds more authentic, not bloated or artificial in any way. Some here cite size as limiter and my Fried's are pretty substantial, but you can get good TL bass with smaller enclos...
Need advise for 7.1 system speakers
Audio Advisor is having a sale on NHT for 3 days. I thought NHT was out of business, but this may be old stock or maybe they geared up for temporary production. Be careful, they are priced per speaker, but appear to be a decent price. NHT made som...
Article explaining how CD players work
My electrical engineering professor told us this about CD data retrieval. Music CD's came first. There were errors in reading the data, but they were small enough that our ears did not detect the difference. :-) For the data CD's to become useful,...

My Gosh, America didn't get a mention yet!!
Heed Quasar Outputs
Thanks Tvad. I read what was info and reviews I could find on the Heed and they have been positive. I think between 62dB to 65db of gain would probably be sufficient. I have no volume problems with MM type cartridges and 40dB of gain. My present c...
Technics SL1200: Baerwald or 1200 white gauge?
I would like to know if there is big difference between what Turntable Basics offers for $20 to the $110 for the MintLp. I took a look at the MintLp site and the only difference I saw was it was optimized for each arm. Oh, and the lines are on an ...
how to set up the Dual CS5000 turntable?
I'm not sure what you're really asking here. I bought the CS5000 new, back in '80 or '81. I still have it as a second table. I still have the manual and all the setup stuff. I bought a cartridge alignment tool from turntable basics and set it up. ...
No Sound from Tweeter
Everyone seems to have missed the one basic troubleshooting step. Take the non functioning tweeter and swap it with the functioning tweeter. If the tweeter works it is a bad connection/crossover. Otherwise the tweeter is dead.Ben
