Best Mid-Priced DVD/SACD/DVD-A/HDCD Player?
I have a McCormack UDP-1 with one set of outputs (2ch) into a preamp, the other one into my 5.1 integrated. It does it all short of HDCD. Used is $2,000, mid-priced for universal players. And no need for an external DAC, it is already a fantastic ...

Wife/girlfriend or audio: if you had to chose?
Ok, this is getting waaaay toooo serious. Now, wife, audio or dog? we recently saw a fellow Agoner selling his speakers because his cat had p#%@@ all over them and he chose the cat over audio...how many would have gunned the cat out? Apparently, i...

Wife/girlfriend or audio: if you had to chose?
At certain age, I love to look at the back of these amps more than what in the adult magazines.Andrew:this is exactly what one of my friend said two months ago when coming out of my restroom he said: " 20 yrs ago, there were some Playboy mags here...
Wife/girlfriend or audio: if you had to chose?
Freemand: I am only kidding and this thread was meant to have some fun. Of course you are right but at the same time, most of us on Agon have a very intimate relationship with music (not with tubes, it hurts)and it does provide many emotions.
Wife/girlfriend or audio: if you had to chose?
Freemand:When your wife walks away and your children tell you that you are an old fart only good to pay for their tuition, audio will be there to support you through the rough times. A good system is more loyal than a dog - this is why it is calle...
Are Monitor/Subs More Room Flexible?
I do not disagree with Vladimir that Rel subs have had such an audiophile sonic response that their integration is never boomy nor gross...yet it is possible to create a small dip, Rel or not, depending on your Main speakers cross-over slope and R...
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend?
You should try a B&W golf-ball texured port or a B&W tweeter in erection...totally useless but a great marketing tool from the geniuses at BandW or BMW as some people still think...
Are Monitor/Subs More Room Flexible?
I would agree with your statement generally speaking with two comments:- more flexible yes but not necessarily better sounding due to the need for quasi-perfect integration that is often under-estimated- if you can bi-amp and modify the power deli...
Passive preamps: What are the relevant numbers?
Dave: the 0.5V you are looking at is the digital output. Line is 2V for most Rotel CDPs - standard. You are fine with a passive pre into DNA - keep the interconnecs not too long and of low impedance.
21' 13' room: long wall vs. short wall placement
I am currently set up pretty much like Bob suggested, even more into the room (7ft), 28" from side and I listen about 4ft away from the back wall so the depth is great and I pretty much removed the room from the equation (short of the low ceiling)...
