Scoring on Used Thiels here @audionoobie I have the SE version with audiophile-grade capacitors in the coax feed, so can't speak directly to standard CS2.4 in terms of a direct comparison. I did hear the standard version many years ago and wanted a pair but unexpected dental...
Scoring on Used Thiels here thiel 2.4 or 2.7 are probably as big as I would go. Might fly without the sub. Or maybe 1.6 or 1.7. I saw a pair of 1.6 s at a local dealer a while back. I agree with unsound, get as much bass as you can afford. I went from the CS1.6 (no aud...
Scoring on Used Thiels here Thiel appeals to me. The low efficiency is a concern for me. The efficiency is about average, actually. Most models rated 87-89 dB. The "problem" is the low impedance. Thiels draw a lot of current. You will want a high quality amp with a decen...
Scoring on Used Thiels here Tons of great info on "Thiel owner’s thread".I bought a pair of CS2.4SEs just a few weeks ago knowing that Thiel was in serious trouble. I figured I’d be OK as long as the drivers were in good shape (they are flawless). Short of abuse, drivers usu...
Thiel Owners strat-a-gee article here:https://www.strata-gee.com/king-thiel-dead-coherent-source-service/Coherent Source website here: https://www.coherentsourceservice.com/My "100 MBps" Comcast had a hard time downloading the pic of the CS3.7s!Woo-hooo! Can't...
Thiel Owners Not planning any experiments . . . I hope to upgrade the crossovers exactly one time! Or piecemeal, given that I already have the Clarity SAs in the coax feed. ie, start with the woofer feed, maybe put newer Clarity (or Mundorf) in the coax feed a...
Thiel Owners My hope is to supply subtle information that may not be obvious to all. Crossover networks can be very easily scrambled via changes with unintended consequences. I suspect I speak on behalf of this community in saying how grateful we are to h...
Thiel Owners Not anymore than I'm enamored by Thiel! Cardas cables sound terrific and many manufacturers with great sounding products use Cardas wire. YMMV.
Choice of Vandersteen models Midrange suckout? Are you referring to Stereophile's measurements? That "problem" is because Atkinson has to measure at 50" in his "quasi-anechoic" technique, and he doesn't always use the manufacturer specified height. This severely handicaps fir...
Choice of Vandersteen models I'm pretty sure the Quatro Wood will have the "tri-woven" midrange driver. If the model 5 pre-dates that driver, the decision should be much easier for you! Then again, the model 5 can be upgraded to 5 Carbon.
Integrateds: Why do they all SUCK? @jafant Over on audioaficionado GreginNH posted that he preferred the AX-5 to the Accuphase E600.
Thiel Owners Thanks for the added info, Tom. I will wait to see what Rob Gillum offers. I don't have time to pursue this now, anyhow. Just toying with the idea. If Mr. Gillum doesn't offer a DIY kit, I will probably start with the woofer feed given that my 2.4...
How can Wilson Audio speakers sound that good if they are using OEM drivers? Wilson is akin, IMO, to a fully tricked out Corvette. You can make it really fast - even faster than production - and really luxurious. It's super awesome . . . but it's still a Corvette. Front-engine, V-8, there's only so much you can do.Wilson t...
Thiel Owners It seems the site ate my detailed response. Aww, bummer. Sorry to lose what must have been some great info. Re: Mundorf recs from Madisound, were those for Thiels?I don't know if you can put pics in this thread but you can in the user systems se...
Thiel Owners @tmsrdg I can't even find the name of the person who compared all of those. What is their experience? What is their system? What are their biases and preferences? IOW, how credible are they and how do we translate those words in ways that help us ... |
