active crossover recommendation
The fellow is named Danny Richie, but I don't think he builds crossovers. He sells DIY speaker kits, which include the parts for making the passive crossover filters the loudspeaker uses.
Dylan's Time Out of Mind remix is Stunning
Oops; the Robbie Robertson album I above referred to was not a Spector production, but a Daniel Lanois. I REALLY dislike it. Though The Band greatly benefited from Robertson’s songwriting and guitar playing (but certainly not his "singing". In The...
What's the best EL84 amp?
While Dick Olsher preferred the original RM-9 fitted with KT88’s in place of the standard EL-34’s, in the Mk.2 version he preferred the stock EL-34’s, finding the KT-88’s to imbue the Mk.2 with "a subtle, bright tinge through the upper mids and lo...
What's the best EL84 amp?
@dhcod: If you want to experience a hot amp, get a pair of mono Atma-Spheres. A pair of M-60's run 16 output tubes (in Class A), for a mere 60 watts//ch!
Dylan's Time Out of Mind remix is Stunning
Oh, hey: Anyone who wants to hear the Spector Wall-Of-Sound applied really successfully to Rock ’n’ Roll, get a copy of Dave Edmunds’ 2nd album, Subtle As A Flying Mallet. For those unfamiliar with Dave, he is a Chuck Berry and Everly Brothers-inf...
What is the best way to clean Vinyl?
@jjbeason14: I would encourage you to do a pre-cleaning of the LP before immersing it in the Spin Clean tank, especially if you buy used records. Why, you ask? By running tap water over the LP in the sink (at the pre-cleaning stage tap water will ...
What's the best EL84 amp?
I’d be interested to know why a person would prefer the original RM-9 to the Mk.2 version. Dick Olsher (a favorite audio critic of mine) reviewed both, greatly preferring the Mk.2. Both reviews are available for reading in the Stereophile archives...
Did vinyl sales just hit the proverbial brick wall?
@edcyn: I'm thinking about getting a good bike again. Last one I had was a Bottecchia, fully Campagnolo equipped, sew-up tires (never again!). My area has some real nice bike-riding streets.

@stuartk: The Standells certainly liked dirty water ;-) .
Album Whale: An easy place to share fun lists of albums
Another great way to share favorite music is on YouTube. There is a group of people who are collectively known as The Vinyl Community, and it's "members" (it's not really an organization) post videos on YouTube, showing and discussing titles in th...
The Aaron Copland / Bob Dylan connection
@jafant: I bought all the deluxe CD boxset versions of previous Bootleg series releases (I really wanted ALL the Basement Tape recordings, for instance), but for this one I chose the 4-LP set. The extra material in the 5-CD box didn't particularly...
Dylan's Time Out of Mind remix is Stunning
I love Spector’s early-mid 60’s productions, of Pop singers (all his girl groups, The Righteous Brothers, Ike & Tina Turner, etc.). But not his Beatles, George Harrison, Leonard Cohen, Ramones, or Robbie Robertson (that album just oozes preten...
Did vinyl sales just hit the proverbial brick wall?
@edcyn: No problem, I was in Music Millennium again today (oh no, I'm going to record stores every day now ;-) and bought the disc. But it's a CD, not an LP (like I said, the album is getting hard to find on LP. If they had the LP I'm sure it woul...

Did vinyl sales just hit the proverbial brick wall?
I last saw Dylan live in 2001, and he was fantastic, far better than he been when I saw him 10 years earlier. But then he was playing better music, and had a far, far better band. Of course, that was 22 years ago now. But he still has great materi...
