Better Records vs MoFi
Most of the old LP’s I’m looking for these days have not been reissued by any audiophile company, and aren’t likely to be. And the ones I’m looking for can sometimes be found for peanuts, sometimes not. I went into one of my used records store...
Riddle me this....
Look for a copy of The Wood Effect, a book written by R.C. Johnsen. The book is devoted to the subject of polarity inversion.
Speaker Wires: Can I use different Wire Gauges in the same Conductor?
Using various different gauge wire strands has been the basis for Cardas cables its' entire history.
Best music in 2023
I'm looking forward to hearing Jenny Lewis' new album.
Tune of the Day
@slaw: "Red Blue Jeans" got my attention. Gene Vincent recorded a song with the exact same title back in the 1950's, a Rockabilly classic. I'll give Kilzner's song a listen.
Tonearm with a slotted headshell to replace Linn Ittok LV II
In the old days, two alternatives to the Ittok for use on the Linn table were the Sumiko MDC-800 (a/k/a The Arm), and the Zeta (made in the UK). Both are now somewhat hard to find. Both feature very robust arm tubes and excellent bearing assemblie...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
@bslon: If you think the U.S. pressing (it’s on A&M Records, not Epic) of Tea For The Tillerman sounds great, wait until you hear the Analogue Productions LP! For years the first pressing on UK Island Records (with a pink center label) was co...
Listen with your skin.
I’ve long claimed that live music is a full body experience, while most reproduced is more heard than felt. Part of that is a matter of SPL, another is that very few hi-fi systems reproduce the bottom octave (20-40Hz) at all, let alone at the SPL ...
Steve Guttenberg finally reviews the Eminent Technology LFT-8b loudspeaker.
You as well Jim! And all others reading along---Eric.
Better Records vs MoFi
@minkwelder: Oh, a UK copy of Music From Big Pink! I still have the one I bought in 1970, having given up on finding a quiet USA pressing. One thing to be aware of is that any foreign pressing is going to have its’ lacquer cut from a tape another...
What speaker could safely be ordered without hearing it first?
@mahgister, have you seen the documentary entitled Gore Vidal: The United States Of Amnesia? It's fantastic!
What speaker could safely be ordered without hearing it first?
I love(d) William Buckley @jeffseight. I regularly watched his Firing Line TV show. And Christopher Hitchens. Two writers (and speakers) who couldn’t be more different from one another.
The "Very Best Record Cleaning Formulation"
Last were very adamant in stating their Record preservative is NOT a lubricant. What it is is explained in their technical papers, for those sincerely interested.
Better Records vs MoFi
Good one (The Band) wolf_garcia. Even the original pressing is pretty good (I have a U.S. and a U.K.), as is the MoFi. The 45RPM format allowed Robert Ludwig (mastering) and Chris Bellman (lacquer cutting) to maximize the potential of the simple r...
The Best Tweak?
By far, addressing the acoustical behavior of your listening room. Bass modes can result in not just constructive and destructive waves creating peaks and/or troughs in bass response, but also "slow" sounding bass due to the resonant modes created...
