Planar ribbon speaker and Tubes Not working Please help! If you love both the speakers (GT Audio Works have made some great ones, though I haven't heard these) and the amp, the Anti Cable Zero Autoformer seems like it could be the perfect solution. It merely raises the impedance of the speaker, making i...
Room Correction I don't what constitutes huge, but the GR/Rythmik dipole, when built as an H-frame (see below) and positioned standing up, is only 16" wide, 14" deep, and about 28" tall. The cool thing is the sub, being dipole, can be laid on it's side and used a...
Room Correction Now Willem, take that dipole room mode behavior and extend it into the bass region, with an OB/dipole sub. NOW yer talkin'! The GR Research/Rythmik OB sub provides dipole benefits where they matter most, at low frequencies.
High mass vs Low Mass Turntables - Sound difference? You would say that, slaw! Your fantastic Townshend Rock 7 table has the excellent Seismic Pod isolators ;-) .
The Aaron Copland / Bob Dylan connection I have now finished the book, and it is my number one recommendation for insight into, and plain ol' info on, Dylan. This Wilentz guy is really somethin'! I suggest taking notes as you read it, as there will be stuff you want to later check into, ...
Linestage search The EAR-Yoshino 868 is a no-frills version of the $13,500 EAR 912 (no meters and faceplate handles, fewer controls), a pre-amp Art Dudley gave a rave review to awhile back. The 868 is an over-looked bargain, selling for around $3000 used, $3500-40...
How important is the rack you use for your components Most racks these days are claimed by their makers to provide isolation to the components placed in them. But do they? The spiked feet often found on their legs, and the spikes or cones intended to isolate the shelves from the rack's structure, are...
Best sounding Hard Rock How good are AC/DC albums? They are about the only band which could be considered Hard Rock (though I consider them a Rock 'n' Roll band) I like enough to own music of, and I listen to them only in the car---great driving music!
Room Correction A person who uses subs for bass can feel free to use digital room correction (like the DSPeaker Anti-Mode) without paying a penalty to higher frequencies. Send only the sub signal through the DSP, and the main signal straight to the speakers' amp.
Why are so many Infinity IRS beta systems for sale the past year ? I've seen a number of pairs RS-1b's lately too. I sold mine because I heard the Eminent Technology LFT-8b, a speaker I could get new for less than I could sell the RS-1b's for. Since the LFT is the better speaker, it was a no brainer!
Whats on your turntable tonight? Slaw, the John in my last post is John Prine.
50 of the best hi-fi albums for audiophiles Good info, whart. I have used the Teac 2340 (just like the 3340, but with 7" reel capacity to the 3340’s 10-1/2") in a small studio I built and engineered in, and it is a good sounding recorder, almost as good as my Revox A-77, believe it or not. ...
Most overrated bands defientboomerang, that's the thing---I consider The Ramones a Pop band, not a Punk one. They're in with Weezer and other bands with Pop hooks, but Garage energy.
Searching for the most "accurate" speaker (below 15K) The Carvers at $15k, the Eminent Technology at $2499---one sixth the price. The $12,501 difference will buy a swarm of nice subs! Or a whole lotta music.
Best music of 2017 I can't keep up with Marty Stuart's releases, and I try. His Fabulous Superlatives are SUCH a great band. Guitarist Kenny Vaughan was in Lucinda Williams' band in the early 2000's and has a fine solo album, and Harry Stinson is not only an excelle... |
