Magnepan LRS plus & Atma-Sphere digital amps
The MG1.7i, like the LRS+, needs a sub (imo). @secretguy doesn’t like to hear it, but for about the same price as the 1.7i you can get the superior (imo) Eminent Technology LFT-8b. And it doesn't require a high current power amp.

When I’m in the mood AC/DC, The Band just won’t do. And visa versa. But I am no longer EVER in the mood for Cream. Or The Jimi Hendrix Experience. I saw both live twice, in 1968 and ’69. And The Who twice those same years (performing the A Quic...

AND Shoot Out The Lights is a great sounding recording, a bonus. I regularly use it as one of my demo LP’s.

@ricevs: Your comments are always welcomed by me (by the way, I still own the Audible Illusions Modulus 2 pre-amp you "modified" for me about 25 years ago. Modified is an understatement; it is a complete redesign, turning the full-function pre ...

Such as? I also own Quads ("57"s), Maggies (Tympani T-IVa), and ESS (Transtatics). In the past I have also owned Infinities (RS-Ib), Fulton Industries (Model J), a few others. It’s not that the ET LFT-8b is "better than the acknowledged master...

@danbro: Now THAT oughta be great! Sexton's very cool.

And I yours, @loomisjohnson. I realize my opinion of The Attractions is not universal, and I don’t consider it to be anything more than just my own. My taste in musicians runs to the playing of ensembles such as The Swampers (aka The Muscle Sho...

I have owned only one PS Audio piece (the old 200C power amp), which I consider to be well designed and built. So did J. Gordon Holt and Tony Cordesman, reviewed in Stereophile. As for Eminent Technology (not "Emminant tech"), Bruce Thigpen ma...

@markmuse: The LRS+ with a sub may be the amongst the very best values in hi-fi today. Too bad not everyone can accommodate dipole planar loudspeakers. But then not everyone likes them.

The LFT-8b makes bi-amping a simple proposition, and allows a tube amp to be used on the Planar Magnetic drivers/panels (tubes love an 11 ohm load), and a solid state amp on the sealed dynamic woofer. Splitting the signal at 180Hz eliminates th...

I am living in the southern most town in Washington State (Vancouver), just over the border/river from Portland, Oregon. If I were working for Eminent Technology I think I would be living in Florida. And being paid to do so. I’m not a dealer, ...

And Clover can be the band they were without being called mellow, which to me sounded like an insult. As for Clover, I don’t particularly like them (they were certainly no Rockpile), and I was never a fan of Huey Lewis & The News. But I wou...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
I like other Fleetwood Mac albums, I love Kiln House. It has the most 1950's American Rock 'n' Roll sound and feel of all their albums. It was amongst my most-played albums in 1970.

At one appearance Bill Johnson of ARC made in a dealer’s shop near me, he told the story of getting a call from Harry Pearson, who told Bill the new pre-amp he had received was defective. Bill asked Harry a few questions, and quickly learned th...

I’m pretty sure Costello considers the music on King Of America to be "REAL Elvis music", and 14 of the album’s 15 songs are Attractions-free. As I said above, KOA is Elvis’ own favorite of his, and the musicians who play on those 14 songs inc...
