How do you store and catalog your vinyl? The Ikea KALLAX is the best deal around. I like the EKET even more, but it’s cost-to-capacity ratio isn’t as good. It’s worth it to me.
Accuracy vs. Enjoyment @shadorne, though shunned by audiophiles, active speakers are a very good idea. The amplifier(s) can be optimized for a known speaker load, not compromised to make it more universal. Roger Modjeski of Music Reference is now offering his own design...
Just wanted to introduce myself. @kaathesnake, I too am a Brian Wilson lover. I had a Revox A77 Mk.3 in 1975, but used a Teac 2340 (same as the 3340, but with 7" reel capacity, not 10.5") to make some demo recordings with a great songwriter I worked with from '74 to '76. We took ...
Accuracy vs. Enjoyment Al, your thinking on the subject is supported by my experience that a speaker having a midrange driver with as wide a bandwidth as possible, reproducing as much of the music as possible, is, all things being equal, a very good thing. In that way, ...
Classical Recordings from the Golden Age I have kept my ARC LS-1 all these years expressly for it’s mode switch---Stereo/Reverse/Mono/Left/Right. Before the current rash of 60’s albums issued in Mono on LP and CD (Dylan, The Beatles), the Stereo pressings of albums I wanted to hear in Mo...
Whats on your turntable tonight? Bravo reubent! A Salty Dog and Planet Waves are two of my favorite albums. I have the original British pressing of ASD, the Asylum Planet Waves (and Sony SACD from the early 2000's), and the new Mobile Fidelity of same, which I haven't listened to...
VPI Classic 1 isolation upgrade You can't get Baltic Birch plywood in Norway? It's imported into the U.S.A. from Scandinavia, where the world's supply comes from! I'm half Norwegian myself (surname Jerde), my great-great grandfather immigrating in the 19th century to Minnesota, ...
Out goes the Old, In comes the New! Big difference between trolling and calling a spade a spade. Some of the (unfortunately) more expensive Crowns (some discontinued) are/were pretty good, much better than the current bottom-level Crowns. Excellent engineering doesn't necessarily co...
Spend my $1000 on a turntable The VPI HW-19 Mk.2 is identical to the Mk.3 with the exception that the metal subchassis is steel in the Mk.2, stainless steel in the Mk.3 (and 4). I have one of each, no big deal imo.
Planar/panel speakers to replace Carver Amazings Well Doug, if you ever decide to sell the LFT-6's let me know! Have you seen the posting from the guy who, like you, doubled-up two pair of LFT-8's? But instead of placing them side-by-side, he removed the LFT drivers from ET's panels, and install...
Out goes the Old, In comes the New! Oh, I do Frank. Townshend Audio Seismic Pods and platforms, Symposium Acoustics and Ingress Engineering Roller Blocks, DH Cones, BDR Cones and Blocks, SIMS Navcom Silencers, Herbies Tendefeet, EAR IsoDamp, tube dampers, VPI Magic Brick, silver ic ...
Planar/panel speakers to replace Carver Amazings @ctsooner, the problem with the Vandersteen sub(s) with the LFT-8’s is that the LFT m-p panels are good to only just below 200Hz (the x/o is at 180Hz, 1st order), so any sub used with them must play that high. Few do, but the OB/Dipole Sub plays u...
So I just inherited a bunch of CD's and some are made overseas... @roberjerman, if you ever get into L.A., head to Amoeba Music on Sunset Blvd., close to Vine. Insane record store!
VPI Prime or Scout or ??? VPI owners trading in or up is why there are great deal to be had on older models. I got a Mint Aries 1 (still a fine player) for $750! No arm, but I don't use VPI's anyway.
Have you ever changed speakers to expereince a different "soundscape" or presentation?? Horns are fun, I've lived with a pair. The best ones I ever heard were the pair of Jadis Eurythmie that Brooks Berdan had in his house. He also has a pair of Wilson WAMMS, Dave's original 1980's big statement speaker. And Klipschorns! |
