Movie/film suggestions.
@winoguy17: Speaking of the Coen Brothers, have you seen The Man Who Wasn't There. Fantastic! A modern Noir instant classic, with the most beautiful B & W cinematography (by Roger Deakins) I've EVER seen. I also love their little-known A Se...
Woodstock 1969, or 1967?
I’ve been deliberately avoiding this thread since my last post. A few days after responding to the first few comments from others that followed, it occurred to me that I should have pointed out to @zlone that I had NOT in actual fact "trashed a...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
@bslon: That Band album contains one of my favorite Robbie Robertson songs, "It Makes No Difference". Just beautiful.
Progress at londondecca.com
@noromance: Was that magnet used in the Decca Mk.IV? I'm on the hunt for a MK. IV.
Here's a really, really great video on Richard Manuel (and oh yeah, The Band).
@wharfy: A former fellow band member friend of mine is a week younger then I (we met the first day of 7th grade in September of 1962, and played our first show together at the Jr. High Talent Show in the spring of ’64. A year later we were both...
Movie/film suggestions.
@noromance: I didn’t mean for my use of the term ridiculous to be taken literally, as a pejorative dismissal. I love Eraserhead, but I knew the store manager would consider my choice ridiculous. Which she did.   @hifiguy42: My favorite of Kub...
Movie/film suggestions.
@noromance: The manager at my video store in the early-2000’s one day asked me what my favorite movie was. A ridiculous question, so I gave her a ridiculous answer: Eraserhead, of course. I recently read that Stanley Kubrick cited it as his all...
VMP (Vinyl Me Please) new.
Oops, news not new, choice not chose, and a colon after "(first release on LP". Duh.
Here's a really, really great video on Richard Manuel (and oh yeah, The Band).
@wharfy: I turn 75 in June. Damn, where’d the time go?! In three years I’ll be the age my Pa was when he croaked. Colon cancer. But I never smoked, drank only moderately, ate sensibly, and got plenty of exercise hauling band equipment in and ou...
Elvis Costello's favorite album of his own.
@onhwy61’s post makes obvious that in my response to @slaw’s comment, I should have included the qualifying "of the Elvis albums I’ve heard." I’ve heard far less of his than than those I have heard, but I read the reviews of every album he rele...
Does anyone listen to the radio anymore?
Portland (Oregon) has a pretty good Classical music station, which sounds nice coming out of my Mac MR78 (with companion piece MPI 4, a useful diagnostic tool).
Things we cannot be bothered by anymore
  2 ohm loudspeakers.
Here's a really, really great video on Richard Manuel (and oh yeah, The Band).
Musselwhite was wiser than his contemporary, Paul Butterfield. Paul got in tight with the Woodstock guys, doing a lot of playing with Levon Helm and Rick Danko in particular. He died of an overdose at age 44. The debut Paul Butterfield Blues B...
Any phono preamps with volume control?
You can use a full-function pre-amp (both phono and line stages) for just a phono pickup. The tape out jacks (which are "fed" by whichever input the pre-amp’s selector knob is turned to) are located before the line stage and volume/gain control...
what is more popular silver or black face plates
Usually black, but ARC gear looks more "right" in natural aluminum (silver). Atma-Sphere’s champagne is my all-time favorite.
