Best Classical Labels for Sound One label not yet mentioned is Lyrita, a UK company. Another I like that receives little notice is CRD (again UK), who released some fantastic recordings of Baroque material from the likes of harpsichordist Trevor Pinnock. Stunning sound qualit...
Whats on your turntable tonight? Absolutely @mofimadness! Bring The Family is an all-time Top 10 album for me. I have in on a USA original, the UK pressing on Demon Records (with a bizarre alternate cover), and the MoFi. The MoFi One-Step of Tapestry is the only version of t...
Movie/film suggestions. @br3098 and @jimcrane: Yep, that's the Classical station I also listen to (it's on one of my car radio's preset buttons). I especially like that they play complete works, not just, for instance, one movement of a symphony. They treat their audi...
If Bi-Wiring is an option, should I choose Bi-wiring over single banana with free jumpers @steve_a001: Here is a 15 minute video in which Danny Richie of GR Research tells you all you need to know on the subject of bi-wiring (and bi-amping): https://youtu.be/908BWw1Bx4U?si=qJ_sOf1LhzPNigzM
Movie/film suggestions. Damn @thecarpathian, I wasn't even close! Wrong continent, wrong century, wrong war. Now I REALLY want to see it again.
Danny Richie of GR Research describes and explains how he designs loudspeakers. @tomic601: The following may be of interest to you Jim, as it came from Roger Modjeski. I gave him a call, knowing that he used subs with his QUAD ESLs. Danny Richie always talks about designing crossovers for specific drivers, using the x/o t...
The "young people' music thread - Artists younger than 40 years old People who like the Singer/Songwriter, "Hard" (traditional) Country, and Bluegrass genres (three included in the term Americana) are in luck, as those styles of music have a new generation of practitioners making records and touring. @slaw has ...
Movie/film suggestions. For those whose taste runs to Gothic Horror, I heartily recommend The Others. It stars Nicole Kidman as a mother with two children suffering from an odd malady (an aversion to sunlight), living in an old Southern mansion, waiting for her husban...
Danny Richie of GR Research describes and explains how he designs loudspeakers. Agreed @grannyring. That's Danny's greatest field of expertise, and the most overlooked and undervalued in loudspeaker design (Richard Vandersteen and Siegfried Linkwitz being notable exceptions). For those not wanting to watch the entire v...
Movie/film suggestions. @aewarren: I've lost count of how many times I've watched Casablanca, but when I see it coming up on TCM I watch it again every time. A top 10 movie of all time for sure. Same with Sunset Blvd., The Apartment, Dr. Strangelove, Chinatown, The La...
Devialet , the best bass of any speaker @gdaddy1: For a woofer system to be dual opposed, the two drivers need to share a common air space (the interior of a single enclosure), not each having it’s own, separate air space. At least that’s my understanding. I'm sure I could be mistake...
Devialet , the best bass of any speaker I have't yet watched the video, but there are a number of subs employing dual-opposed drivers, if that's all there is to this speaker's design.
Movie/film suggestions. @mylogic: To be perfectly honest, my original motive for the thread was to make a joke about the current head of the U.S. government, my choice of The Madness Of King George being made for the obvious reason. Plus I do actually like the movie. ...
Rythmik Audio on The Intellectual People Podcast Brian Ding of Rythmik Audio has a business and design relationship with Danny Richie of GR Research. Danny has long been a proponent of open baffle loudspeakers, including woofers. His business caters to the DIY market, offering loudspeaker kit...
Treating the ceiling and floor, who else has had great results? One benefit of tall, narrow dipole planar loudspeakers is no ceiling reflections. And very little sidewall. But of course then there is the 50% backwave to deal with. |
