Whats on your turntable tonight? Hey @tomic601, where'd you find Jerry Douglas' Traveler on LP? The album on my buy list, but I'm seeing it on CD only.
What's your favorite boutique speaker maker @treynolds155: If you think Kenjit’s Concrete Classics are good, wait until you hear his infinite baffle (drivers installed in the wall) model, or his open baffle. Of course, you really need him to come to your house and "custom tune" the CC’s to ...
Tune of the Day "Watching The River Flow". I was knocked out by the song when I first heard it, in 1971. I just watched an interview with the drummer on the song, Jim Keltner. He said the rhythm section on the song---Leon Russell on piano (who produced the sessio...
During this isolation, I would be interested in suggestions of great movies you like. The Coen Brothers: The Man Who Wasn’t There. A Serious Man. No Country For Old Men.David Lynch: Eraserhead. Lost Highway. Mulholland Dr.Stanley Kubrick: Dr. Strangelove. Full Metal Jacket.Jim Jarmusch: Down By Law. Mystery Train. Coffee And Cigare...
Buddy Miller on "vinyl" (LP) When I saw Buddy & Julie at The Roxy Theater in Hollywood (right on Sunset Blvd., a block down from The Whiskey A Go Go) in the late-90’s, they had Patty Griffin come on stage for a song. A while later they brought up Don Heffington, whom Budd...
Buddy Miller on "vinyl" (LP) Cool, guys! Amazon is funny: when I placed my order, the price of the Your Love And Other Lies LP was around $26, Cruel Moon $21 (why the difference? The both have the same list price). When the LP's arrived I checked the titles again on Amazon, a...
Your most indispensable "tweak"? I don't know what constitutes a "tweak", but:1- Room acoustical treatment.2- Loudspeaker and subwoofer placement within the room.3- LP cleaning.
BEL 1001 MK5 driving Joseph Audio Pulsars The L100 is a good example. Hearing it when it was first introduced, and having already developed a high sensitivity to loudspeaker coloration, as well as a love of vocalists and harmony singing, I knew I could never live with the L100. It’s repro...
By popular demand. Roger Modjeski designed a replacement for the Acoustat Medallion interface (which he characterized as having "serious problems" ;-) . He also offered a direct-drive OTL amp for Acoustats, as well as QUADS (the 57 for sure, the 63 I don't know).
Jazz is not Blues and Blues is not Jazz....... In an interview, Carl Perkins said he desperately wanted to find a way out of the fields in Tennessee, where he toiled picking cotton. He found it in Rock ’n’ Roll. Until that moment, I was unaware Southern white’s also picked cotton ;-) . Brutal ...
Subwoofers down-firing or side-firing? Why? Brian Ding at one time offered a down-firing Rythmik model, but discontinued it after coming to the conclusion that the same woofer in the same internal volume enclosure, but front firing rather than down, sounded more impactful.
Anybody have ant thoughts re using 2 Herbie's tube dampers on 1 tube? Damping is the absorption and (hopefully) dissipation of mechanical energy (vibrations). I don't know why one would want to leave the glass envelopes of his tubes free to "ring". Of course, that assumes the glass actually IS ringing. If it's not, ...
Anybody have ant thoughts re using 2 Herbie's tube dampers on 1 tube? Glad you said it, @georgehifi. An '"overdamped" tube glass envelope is the same as an overdamped loudspeaker enclosure: an oxymoron. Both should be as non-resonant as is reasonably possible to make them. The cases of electronics as well, for that ...
Am I too big of a jerk, even for audiogon? Erik's parents went to all the trouble of choosing the cooler spelling of his name (imo), and now all ya'll call him Eric. ;-)
Eminent Technology LFT 7 !! @riverdinaudio, agree about the Maggie ribbon tweeter. I have a pair of Tympani T-IVa's, which contain it. I never though of using it in place of the ribbon tweeter in the LFT-8b, as that ribbon is used only for the top octave. When I get the time... |
