VTL 300 Deluxe monoblocks @tomic601: I hadn't heard about Tom retiring. Glad I got the RM-9 Mk.2 he scrutinized for Sheila while I could! I assumed he wouldn't be coming along when she moves the Brooks Berdan operation up to Washington, sometime this year I believe.
How to repair bottom diaphragm connection of Eminent Technology LFT8 planar speakers By the way, nice loudspeaker! An overlooked little gem. Only a little more $ than the Maggie 1.7i, and imo quite a bit better.
Acoustic treatment for windows and a piano As @dekay suggested, damping the piano strings (two per keyboard note---that's a lotta strings!) is the first order of business. They ring like crazy when provoked, much more than an acoustic guitar or drumset. A folded furniture moving blanket wi...
Another great gone, this time its Charlie Watts I just heard. There are those who consider The Stones Charlie's band, not Mick & Keith's. I guess Steve Jordan now has a full-time job ;-) . I love the pictures of Charlie on stage, smirking at Mick's "antics". Charlie was a hardcore Jazz fan,...
Discovered I had a One Step pressing....from 1978! The direct-to-disc LP still beats all LP's pressed using a recorder of any kind. Skipping the recording "step" is the biggest of them all.
surround processor? An economical way to give surround sound a try is to get the old Dynaco Quadaptor. You hook it up to your power amp's binding posts, and it creates a left minus right (L - R) signal, which is sent to a rear channel amp and speakers. The L - R sign...
TEKTON IMPACT MONITORS If you send one speaker to Danny Richie at GR Research, he will thoroughly evaluate it's performance (frequency response, spectral decay---aka waterfall plot, enclosure resonances, x/o parts quality, etc. If he thinks a redesign of the crossover w...
How to repair bottom diaphragm connection of Eminent Technology LFT8 planar speakers Why not send the pics to Bruce Thigpen at Eminent Technology? Don't worry, he's a real nice fella.
VTL 300 Deluxe monoblocks Tom Carione at Brooks Berdan, Ltd., in Monrovia, California. Tom was servicing VTL products when Brooks was a VTL retailer. He's an excellent technician, and a great guy to deal with.
Thorens, TD-125 MKII I bought a TD-125 Mk.2 new in '73. It was defective out of the box: bad electronics. I had it in the warranty station I don't know how many times, and finally sold it. Tell your friend to look for a VPI HW-19 Mk.2, 3, or 4. Much better table imo.
The great Don Everly has left us. Ah yes @pehare, The Louvin Brothers! Emmylou Harris has said Gram Parsons turned her onto them, for which she is grateful. No Louvin Brothers, no Everly Brothers? ;-)We all stand on the shoulders of giants. That includes Dylan and Simon & Garfu...
Audible illusions Slow customer service Ric Schultz of EVS (Electronic Visionary Systems) might be willing to work on an AI pre-amp. He worked at the company for a while (in the 80's or 90's, I believe), and came up with a series of mods for the Modulus 2.
surround processor? If you can find one, the Angstrom 200 Surround Sound Processor / DAC / Pre-Amp, designed and built by Mike Moffat of Theta and Schitt Audio.
The first system you had that was "high end/audiophile", by you standards @tomic601: I discovered the high end in 1971 (Infinity Servo-Static’s, ESS TranStatics, SAE electronics, then ARC), and commenced visiting every HE shop in the Bay Area. One was The Audio Clinic in Berkeley, which I visited to hear the Dayton Wrig...
Do you all agree when Prince said the 60s, 70s and 80s were the golden ages of music? I couldn't agree more @stuartk. The album's cultural significance is one thing, it's music quite another. Reminds me of how Atlantic Records' President Ahmet Ertegun characterized Cream's Disraeli Gears album when he heard the tapes: "Psychedelic ... |
