The best opening act you've ever seen & heard? For those who don’t mind a history lesson as a post : The first concert I attended was The Beach Boys at The San Jose Civic Auditorium in the Summer of 1964 (before a fair number of ya’ll were born, right?). The opening act was a 4-pc. Surf...
Trans-Fi Terminator Tonearm: 2019 Update @ledoux1238: So we are fellow owners of both the ET-LFT loudspeakers (a hi-fi best buy) and the Terminator! If you get yourself an ET arm, know that Brooks Berdan (the dealer at which I heard the LFT-8 and subsequently bought them) preferred t...
My Esoteric DV-50S died. Where do I go next? Are you sure the part you need is exclusive to Esoteric? If it’s not, a repair might cost you only a coupla bucks for a generic part and an hour of a technician’s time. I hope I expire before my DV-50S does.
Can you do anything to make power tubes last longer ? @tomic601’s mention of Roger Modjeski leads me to suggest that for longest tube life, they can be installed in any of Roger’s Music Reference amps (RM-9, RM-10, RM-200), in which output tubes last about 10,000 hours. Compare that with ARC amps....
The best opening act you've ever seen & heard? Damn @petaluma, great post! I saw our (yours and mine) favorite band at The Berkeley Community Theater in 1969, on their tour in support of the brown album. By a wide margin the best band I’ve ever seen and heard live (and I’ve seen a lot). I s...
Do you agree with John Atkinson (and me)? A lot of great comments here. In my case, the LPs and CDs I already possess would take me more time to listen to than I have time left on Earth. Yet I continue to buy more used and new ones. I love records! I also love good sound, but my system...
The best opening act you've ever seen & heard? This isn't technically a case of an opening act, but at the 1968 Northern California Folk-Rock Festival I witnessed The Electric Flag precede The Doors on stage. The concert poster shows Country Joe & The Fish as the act between the two, bu...
The best opening act you've ever seen & heard? In the Summer of '68 my best friend and I went to The San Jose Civic Auditorium to see Lee Michaels open for Steppenwolf. The curtains opened, and there was Lee sitting at his Hammond organ and dual Leslie speaker cabinets, with about fifteen V...
Movie/film suggestions. Another fan of The Ninth Gate (directed by Roman Polanski), which I have now watched a half dozen times. Polanski's Chinatown is a perfect movie.
A great singer you may have never heard, or even heard of. Willy and Jack Nitzsche in a hotel room. This is what it’s like when two very talented musicians are together in a room. Both Willie and Jack have left us. https://youtu.be/pfDKbQnqcA0?si=LoxlTovgf0GBopev
A great singer you may have never heard, or even heard of. I just clicked on YouTube, and this short (2:21) clip was first in the que. I especially like Hal Willner’s statement about Willie: "This is as good as music gets." And Peter Wolf’s: "There’s the mystery about Willie. When you get it, it’s atom...
The best opening act you've ever seen & heard? @drinaldo: I have a friend who saw the last show Jeff Beck played with The Yardbirds. It was Jeff and Jimmy Page on guitars, and Chris Dreja on bass. He saw them again the following night, and Jeff was gone. I never managed to see the band, dam...
Do you agree with John Atkinson (and me)? @noromance: Lasagna, my all-time favorite meal, bar none. I do some cooking, but lasagna from scratch is above my abilities. The frozen Michael Angelo's I get at my supermarket is pretty darn good.
Do you agree with John Atkinson (and me)? A lot of the "Vinyl Community" posters on YouTube (they refer to themselves as members of the VC, the younger members undoubtedly unaware that those initials were also used when referring to the Viet Cong) mention how many LP’s they own. I’ve n...
Do you agree with John Atkinson (and me)? @whart: Hi Bill, I’m very pleased you decided to join in the conversation, and love your post. Another lover of the Twelve Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus album! If I ever make another trip to Austin, I expect to be welcomed for a visit . The last ti... |
