New Magneplanar Bass Panel DWM
These, as the website shows I think, were originally designed to be part of the mini desktop system and to agument the MMG panels. Considering their rather small square foot surface area has anyone had personal experience using one (or two) to add...
New Magneplanar Bass Panel DWM
I have heard conflicting stories as to whether the DW-1 "end table" version is actually going to be offered. I know it has been out there in demo form but even info from Magnepan has cast some doubt on it. It would be a shame if not, since it real...
Small but high quality integrated
You don't mention your budget but the little Jolida 102B is a nice inexpensive intergated ~ 20 watts per side-using the extremely sweet sounding EL 84/6BQ5 output tube. There are some factory and after market upgrades for it also.
can I get your input on a inexpensive pre-amp
You might want to take a look at a Tube Audio Design TAD- 150 Signature, which can be had used for about $800-$850. It is tube based with a pair of 12AU7 or 12AT7s, has a phonostage, 3 rca inputs, dual pre outputs, HT bypass, and remote control. I...
Marantz 2325's interaction with 4 speakers/load?
Why don't you consider getting a pair of Paul Speltz of Anit-Cable fame's new Auto-Formers. These would bring the impedance created by two 4 ohm speakers in parrell resulting in a 2 ohm load that the amp would see, back up to 4,6 or even 8 ohms de...
Analog and Digital signals: Why settle for less?
I found that when switching from a standard quality coax to a coax cable from Zu, for connecting my CAL Alpha DAC to my transport I got a significant improvement. So the specific coax in my experience can make a big difference. The Zu coax was als...
It's time for a good CD player.
You could track down an older vintage player using the highy regarded Philips TDA1541A-S1 D/A chip and philips transport. The dutchaudioclassics website (just Goggle the "TDA1541A" chip and that website will come up) has a comprehenvive list of pl...
Older is better - D/A chip?
I have had a veritable parade of CD players through my system in the past several years including modest Music Halls, Shandlings, and Rotels and more expensive units from Lector, Musical Fidelity, Audio Aero and DACS from Benchmark, Cal Alpha and ...
EL34 upgrade
I second Maxmads' suggestion re the NOS Tesla EL 34s. There is some info on an Audiosociety shootout against a host of tubes in blind tests in which they came out on top. I hopefully can find the file of the shootout and post it.
Anyone compare LS 3/5A Soliloquy SM 2A3, Spendor
I owned each of these speakers at one time. With low powered PP 2A3 amp( a Deja Vu with big vintage Chicago Output Transformers) I preferred the Soliloquy SM 2A3. With my CJ Premier 8A tube monoblocs (with full Teflon V-Cap upgrade and NOS GE 6550...
Best speaker in the $5-10K range. Details below.
If there is an audiophile club in your area you might consider joining and listening to what other audiophiles have. You can get a wealth of knowledge, hear their different speakers and associataed systems and also find out what they tried before ...
What Are The Best Desktop Speakers?
I agree. I have a pair being driven by a Shandling MC 30 (and occasionally by a little Jolida 102B with those beautiful sounding EL 84 tubes) and it is really amazing the quality of sound coming from the system. Eat your heart out Bose Wave.
Tube table top radios
Check out the SQ units at Quest for Sound. These are current production models designed by Steve Monte at QFS with a very nice retro look. About the size of a standard toaster. Great sounding.
Maggies with no Sub: Fantastic surprise
I have Magnepan 20Rs with upgraded passive crossover (improved parts)being driven by CJ Premier 8A 6550 tube amps(275 watts/monobloc). The amps were upgraded by Bob Backert of rhBackert Sounddezign including full cap changeout to V-Caps. My questi...
Best "small footprint" speaker between $600-1000
A real sleeper in that price range is the Soliloquy 5.3 (the original one with the black mid drivers not the later version with the white mid drivers). If I recall this was a Stereophile Class B when new.
