How do tube Watts compare to SS Watts? Greg, thats interesting. Not sure what a pentode is. Is the KT90 a pentode? If yes then all these 3 tubes are used in amp circuit designs that are different from SET designs using the 300 and 845 tube. Rascal, I also prefer Kreisler over Heiftz. O...
Tyler acoustics questions Ah yes UPS is notorious for rough handling. I once sent a cdp, not well packed(my fault) and was damaged. It would have made it safely if sent FEDEX. I cannot believe Ty packs his high quality speakers with shabby boxing. I hold UPS accountable. A...
How do tube Watts compare to SS Watts? I stand corrected. What i mean to say is that on most speakers, SET amps, 300, 845's will not provide the current necessary to produce tension, "slam". I've had KT88's in my JOR and the result was total failure. The amp lost all its "authority". S...
SET for 88 dB 4 ohm loadspeaker Won't work. You need push/pull tube. Either KT90 or 6550. Just curious, the speakers are they Theils, Vandersteens, Von Schwikert or Tyler?
How do tube Watts compare to SS Watts? My jadis OR with KT90's will drive your speaker. Used, $1500. Also look at the Ming Da tube amp with KT90's/new at $900. The Cayin KT88 "might" work. But I surmise it may be a tad on the soft side. There's not many tube amps used under $1K that wi...
How do tube Watts compare to SS Watts? Depends on the tube. SET amps with 300B, 845 are low power, "no slam" "no authority", but a midrange and highs to die for, WITH THE RIGHT SPEAKER. So scratch those off my list. ...KT88's. I heard one cheap chinese 88 and also rolled 88's in my JOR...
Tyler Acoustic Linbrook Super Towers Holly, from your comments on how classical music is projected as a full symphonic field of sound stage with EIGHT W18's in the Linbrook Super Tower's, this may help me to decide in my purchase of one of Tyler's models. The new Woodmere 2's have on...
Tyler Acoustic Linbrook Super Towers Then I would agree with a excellent sub, the Super towers with 4 7 inch W18's per cabinet would throw one "super size" sound stage. Thats 8 W18's projecting the midbass/low midrange!!!!! Unreal. Wow! I'd love to hear just that speaker even w/o a s...
Berning ZH270 vs 845 SET amp SET amps take a special speaker and as you say has its limitations. Certainly not for me. Give me push/pull with either KT90 or 6550 tube. Speaker comes first as priority, amp second. I buy an amp that works with my speaker, not the other way around.
Tyler Acoustic Linbrook Super Towers Hi Holly, nice review and was close to as I figured the image would be. Basically with the Super you are getting 2 added W17's per cabinet. Correct? Which only adds more midbass/midrange. Not sure why you would go that route when you can get dual ...
Warmest speaker? Steve i brought my Jadis and cayin along with me at a home demo down in new orleans last yr. Was a wonderful experience at Mike's house. I know what the potential of the Lin Sig Sys is, both on my amp and Mike's amp/high quality turntable.
Warmest speaker? "bright speakers". I'll grant it that the Seas Excel are a bit on the "steely" "bright" side. But to my ears the musical image comes clearly through. With "warm" speakers , most brands are on the warm side, the musical image gets channeled with "b...
Warmest speaker? Correct, an exaggerated, over-extended/bloated /muddy midrange. This is "warm". As opposed to "cool" which is accurate/clean/FIDELITY to the musical image. Vandersteen are very warm, B&W's are warm. "Cool" speakers a very rare breed. Though i ...
Transparency: What speakers have it in spades? Some folks above don't understand what transparency is. Lets say vandersteen with its "warmth" is at the other end of the scale. IOW Vandy is not what transparency is all about. What does have 'transparency by the spades" is Ty;er Excel designs.
Can tube amps give true high end bass? mine does, bass galore, KT90 tube. Also 6550 tube. |
