"Fixed" bias versus "auto-biasing" Arkprof, what amps are you considering that brings up this question? Many tubes are both long lived and inexpensive enough that this issue should not be a determining factor -unless your talking about matched B300s etc.-?
"Fixed" bias versus "auto-biasing" Auto biasing is more convenient than manual biasing. That's a good thing. Is there a sound difference? Each person will tell you something else. If you are going to put the amp inside a rack, you may want to put more emphasis on autobiasing but if...
Grounding issue or failing cartridge? Brit Audio did a Fantastic rewire of my RB300. A real nice guy and 2 day turnaround. The Incognito upgrade was easily the most dramatic improvement I've made in my system- and I've made many changes over the years. I recomend the structural mod ...
Grounding issue or failing cartridge? Double check your alignment. If the cartridge has shifted it will definitely affect the staging.A tiny amount of movement is enough to really mess with the sound.

Signal Cable -- High End Generic? Give it a shot, Frank has a 30 day return policy. I think you'll like them though.
BAT to BAT - What's Best? I used Signal Cable's Balanced 2 interconnect between my VK500 and 3i along with their shotgun biwire speaker cable. I was very happy with the performance and even happier with the cash left in my pocket (although not for long, being an audiophile...
Always On? Leave it on. the power draw on the preamp tubes is minimal with no signal passing through and the sound is much better with the amp stable and at operating temperature. |
