Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Raul,I have done some changes to my systems X-over a while ago, and I have the S1000 back in since ~ 1 - 2 weeks when I had to return the M20FL for some channel balance problem. The S1000 is performing better in the base right now - it could be the...
How to change effective mass of a SME V.
Holly mo!Nick this sound very involved indeed.I think a reasonable and quick approximation is to take off the counterweight and cart, then place the arm on a micro-scale. I did this with a 9c (Pro-Ject) arm and is was the exact weight (mass) as st...
Direct drive/rim drive/idler drive vs. belt drive?
Lewm,I know it's more PT to wire it up, but most of these switches work with a relay. Press once it comes in (switches on), press again it trips (switches off) :-)Have fun,
Any word on the Blue Angel "Mantis"?
Davidsss,y.s.:>>> ...I came here to discuss the Mantis, not some other cart, please start your own thread. <<<So you did, didn't you! Thanks for sharing this detail, hey!Now back to this strictly limited, and nothing other then M...

D.T.y.s.:>> If you want to go with a low platter weight - fine. <<Not necessarily, in fact I have this suspicion from what I heard this far, there is once again some trade-of going on here. I have heard the 'musical' mass-platters clos...
I built my own Turntable and here are the results
Back to separate arm pods - from Oolong, ho'. Firstly, both the arm-pod and the tt has to be 'hard' connected to the surface they stand on - plus it better a as level as it gets. Now you have the issue with platter and arm-pod standing un-damped o...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Tobes,y.s.:>> I'm not really finding the treble extension of the P77 to be deficient <<Can't recall having used "deficient" in this context at all, since it is NOT! --- but it is less -PROMINENT- the word I'd used and it still is, with...

Well,1. Klasse or not. If I read the response it'd tell me that "Platine Verdier" can not work as a top tt should work, because it is at constant "war" with the -constant- bearing friction... hm,?!?Hey, I guess I'm not ready for this engineering-1...
SME V vs 309 Sonic Differences
Hi Jfrech,y.s.:>>> ...IV.vi uses a static vs dynamic balance. Theory here being one less thing to resonate. <<<Well, if that dynamic arm VTF (that I indeed forgot to mention!) resonates, then the damping trough (which is an optio...
SME V vs 309 Sonic Differences
Jeff...there is SMR IV and then there is SME IV.vi.The latter ONLY available in US (for Sumiko), but as mentioned earlier, the IV.vi. is a stripped down V i.e. minus the damping trough. The 'normal' IV is (silver not black) but uses copper arm wire...

Hi DT...,am I correct in assuming the 'Platine Verdier' does NOT use a motor controller, and therefore relying on belt slip/creep, platter mass, and controlled bearing friction to 'cancel' the effects of cogging?Axel
Direct drive/rim drive/idler drive vs. belt drive?
Lewm what Quiddity is relating, as I seem to understand it, is that eddy current 'friction' is very much on the minimal side with the magnetic repulsion, almost levitation, ring magnet concepts. Also recall those magnets are only about 1/4" wide r...
Breuer Type 8 Tone Arm
Sorry, one more item to note. The arm came with a bag full of nuts and bolts, and from there on you're on your own to figure what to do with all :-)So you better be somewhat mechanically minded also...PS: sorry for the earlier post's typo reinform...
Breuer Type 8 Tone Arm
The head-shell has 'side-skirts' where it connects to the arm tube (for reinforment), which can cause mounting issues with quite a few cart bodies. Sound is said to be about as 'delicate' as the arm mechanically is (more light mass than medium), a...
Direct drive/rim drive/idler drive vs. belt drive?
Lewm, that 'Clear Audio' magnet repulsion is comprised of two ring-magnets ~ 2 1/2" outer diameter and ~ 1/4" in of magnet width. They then replaced the centre bearing pin with a ceramic pin (as you noted, I think). All it now does is not sit on a ...
