Which one defines sound: Pre amp or Power amp? your experience probably demonstrates that few of us can actually detect the extremely thin margin of difference amps of decent power make in the sound of good speakers.
advice for speakers to buy ? something you can hear in your room first before deciding
What am I doing??? step back and decide how much of this bone you really want to chew. if you start with separates the path to upgraditis is endless and expensive. if you are happy with the sound of your receiver, but want records, try a cheaper phonostage from camb...
Used Tube Preamp Suggestions i throw in my opinion for the tad-150 signature. they can only be had used, but are a tremendous value when you can find one. unlike some, they have two sets of outputs so you can run a sub from it if desired.
Cable TV digital music i run mine through the dacs in a pre/pro, sounds pretty good, better than the analog outs.
Squeezebox Duet DAC vs Rotel try both, see what you like, i think it will be the rotel by a good margin.
Acoustic Zen Adagio - need advise please i luv mine. if you have a quality system in front, you will hear what it can do. i do believe you can do better if rock is your dominant listening. the bass is quite good, but not what 12" woofers can do for led zeppelin. however the neutrality an...
is getting a tube pre a valid option with ss amp? i do it with a tad-150 and an electrocompaniet ss amp. to me its the way to get close to best of both worlds. the sound is warm and dynamic, but as with all things, it depends on you, the qualtiy of the equipment/synergy, and the quality of the re...

sub+satellite or full range? i have both and i think the smaller the room, more the sub/sat setup and the bigger goes to full range. however full range single drivers often need a sub to fill out the bootom end, but can be used in almost near field listening to great effect.I...
Buying used vs. New I look for bargains, most have been great. A few dissapointments, but for the 40-50% off, it is hard to justify buying new. Then again, i have never purchased anything over 2500 this way, so i consider myself a small fish. I would feel very insecu...
Good Amp with totem model 1s? i know totem recommend the prima luna integrateds.
Budget outboard phono stage Rec's i use the cam 640 with a music hall mmf 5 and tube integrated, works great, certainly not the best sound, but you are on a budget and it does a nice job
I am interested in upgrading my late 80's system? i am sure everyone will ask,so, how much are you willing to spend? clearly there are many improvements available. what types of music? hometheater use?
Feds to audiophiles: You're all pirates now i was able to download hundreds of songs on napster before the big change. i found artists i had never heard and bought many cd's as a result.the win win in this is clear to me, however it appears some have very strong opinions against. the reinve... |
