DVD player as a CD transport?
I guess it depends on "compared to what"--in this hobby it usually does. On the Sony 7700; It's no Theta Data 3;and I'll guess It's no Faroudja either. I have the Pioneer Elite 09,-- I've had a Sony 7700 also.Bass, low level drive, are sadly missing...
NOS, how often is this term used correctly?
I would guess this term is misapplied.. lots. I have bought / for good money / tubes that were barely servicable.(referred to as 'nos') One look at the marks on the pins makes me suspicious.I'm refering to power tubes. These have a shorter life / ...
Tubes: unmatched Quads or Pairs
I have such an amp.(s) CJ 5's. With the abundance of tubes, here at this sight /Also since we're not talking expensive "nos"s/ why would one want to mix & match? I would say no harm for a short period of time (less than a week). Amps are expen...
proper settings for Toshiba 40H80 16X9 rear projection tv???
This is pretty simple. With or without the setup disc. The set needs calibration/ but /to get as much as possible before then: Make sure the set has been on for a couple of hrs. Find a scene with light and darknes within the same frame. put the pla...
what happened to power cord review
Well, since we no longer have the voting system I'll give you both my thumbs up for an excellent post; indeed !! Nothing like some "yahoo" telling you one cable does it all.
Leave it on or turn it off?
I'm with Angela.--However as many people will be reading this, and applying the answers to their situation--- I have a Moscode 600.A while back I had to have my main amp worked on,and had to use the 600 as the *only* amp. It sounded absolutely horr...
Richard Gray 400S- any VIDEO benefits??
I,(3),have heard the same thing. I think one would want to see what the current draw for the given tv is /typically 300 watts for 36in ctrs, and some rptvs use more.
Dual layer DVD V.S. the player
Yes--indeed. It's funny, the older Toshiba I had, had no such problem.(Just no DTS) When you contact Tosiba they will fix *this* problem. Wan't all that much money they wanted; just the turnaround time.---I just went out and got a sony 7700 used. /...
How to test those NOS tubes
Detlof; As you might surmise from my previous confession, I'm no help at all. I'm still learning. But every thing I posted regarding output tubes is an actual experience. My education has a ways to go--in all areas. I'm not sure if this "tests wel...
Advice on a speaker system
In a second system I have the PSBs,--all around. And not bad. I have the older Alpha 500s for the fronts. Lots of bass as a sub wouldn't be suitable *here*.
Anyone Familar With ESS Speakers?
Had a pair in the 70s with a kenwood receiver--- Probably sounded like the fellas described. ---But hey it was hi fi to me. (back then)There got to be better/ cheaper designs out there without spending lots of bucks.I only responded because I hear...
How to test those NOS tubes
Detlof:...I have near your knowledge / maybe less. My amps are the individual socket biasing type. As in CJ Premere5s.--16 el34s--16 trim pots.I bought a set of 16 of these nos's--The seller told me these were tested 14 way to sundown. However, 4 ...
I need help with amp selection.
Eagle 2,or 2c cheap, but great @ 4 to 7 hundred. I'd put this up against most of the 2k amps.
Speaker Upgrade
Before you drop 7k on speakers;/ Think of getting better amplification.---You can get some really great speakers, used here. Then the amp would be the weak link. I'm not bashing Rotel. It's just that if you turned me loose to pick out 7k in used s...
Poor sattelite picture quality
Can't tell you exactly what's going on for sure, but,---From what I read ntsc material is not nearly as good on these hdtvs. So,maybe you are jazzed about the dvd picture; and not so happy with ntsc source(??)On my older Pioneer, the direct tv pic...
